Tickets on Sale Now for Holiday Lights at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary
This annual family event returns for the 11th year with its popular seasonal cheer! Thousands of bright and colorful lights, sparkling ornaments and trees, lighted animal figures, and displays transform the zoo sanctuary with holiday spirit. Local caroling groups and musicians provide the merry sounds of the season, and the Folsom Valley Railway miniature train provides special nighttime rides. Wild Nights and Holiday Lights is open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. December 10-12 and December 17-23 (weather permitting; heavy rains will cancel). All proceeds from the event benefit the zoo sanctuary animals.

New this year: to provide an enhanced experience for guests, admission and train rides are limited each night of the event and tickets for both are date-specific. Event admission is $10/person and train tickets are $5/person; admission and train rides are free for ages under 2 years. Due to the limited number of admissions, advance ticket purchase is strongly encouraged. Advance tickets are available for purchase online at webtrac.folsom.ca.us. Tickets may also be purchased at the Folsom Parks & Recreation registration counter, 48 Natoma Street (open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday) and at the zoo ticket booth (open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday).

Follow Facebook.com/FolsomParksandRec for daily event updates, ticket availability, and potential weather-related schedule changes. Call 916-461-6601 for questions.

The main playground and picnic pavilion in City Lions Park are included as part of the Wild Nights and Holiday Lights event – public access to these areas is closed through the end of December. The universally accessible Play for All Park remains open for daily use.

The City of Folsom is proposing solid waste utility rate increases for residential and non-residential customers. These proposed rate increases are needed to comply with a new unfunded state mandate under SB 1383 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The state-mandated programs significantly increase costs. Programs include weekly collection of all organic materials from residents and businesses, community outreach and education, procurement of products made from recycled organic material, edible food recovery, and enforcement. If approved, the cost for waste collection at the typical household will increase from $34.50 per month to $46.25 per month in January 2022. Learn more at www.folsom.ca.us/utilityrates.

Smart Home Water Monitoring Device Rebate
The City of Folsom offers a new smart home water monitoring system rebate program. A Flume Smart Home Water Monitor works with any water meter and is easily self-installed in minutes. The corresponding app allows users to virtually view and monitor indoor and outdoor water use from anywhere, at any time. This increased visibility provides complete home protection by catching and alerting users of leaks as they happen. The city is offering its water customers a rebate to purchase the device for $75 plus tax (a nearly 63% savings). Once installed and activated, the customer will also receive a $25 refund from Flume. Learn more at flumewater.com/folsom.
Historic District Christmas Tree Lighting
Feel the magic of the holidays in Historic Folsom at the annual Christmas tree lighting event Friday, December 3 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Let’s Map Folsom’s Future Together
The City of Folsom is transitioning to a by-district election system for electing Folsom City Councilmembers and wants to hear from residents about how to split the city into five districts.

The process for establishing districts is controlled by federal and state laws, including data from the federal census. The city has hired a professional demographer to assist in the creation of proposed district boundaries based on demographics and input from Folsom residents.

As part of this process, the public is invited to submit district boundary suggestions. Proposed maps must be received on or before January 3.
