Lighting Up Green in Honor of Mental Health Awareness Month


In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the City is joining the “Lighting Up Green” campaign to spark conversation and support community well-being. Throughout May, buildings across Santa Barbara County will shine in lime green, the national color for mental health awareness. Reflecting this year’s theme, “More Good Days, Together,” the campaign encourages residents to take meaningful steps toward support, awareness, and early intervention to help create more good days for all.

Harbor Nautical Swap Meet


Calling all treasure hunters! On Saturday, May 16, the 15th Annual Harbor Nautical Swap Meet will be held in the Main Harbor Parking Lot, admission is free. Dozens of vendors will display and sell marine/nautical items. Spend the morning looking for new gear while enjoying complimentary coffee and refreshments care of the Harbor Merchants Association. Have nautical items to sell? Sign up as a vendor for only $40 per spot at the following link.

The State of the City luncheon on April 10, hosted by the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce, featured a presentation by Mayor Randy Rowse covering City infrastructure, public safety, and community services. The program continued with a city manager panel discussion, where City Administrator Kelly McAdoo discussed budget priorities, economic development, and housing progress.

Lower Eastside Safety Enhancement Project Meetings


The City will be hosting two community meetings to provide the latest design updates for the Lower Eastside Safety Enhancements Project and the proposed grant application for the Highway 101 Pedestrian/Cyclist Bridge Overcrossing, connecting the Eastside to the Waterfront. The meetings will take place on May 13 (webinar) and May 20 at Franklin Elementary School.

Low-Cost Swim Lessons and Water Safety Programs


May is National Water Safety Month! Registration is open for low-cost programs designed to ensure children six months to 17 years have the knowledge and skills to stay safe in and around water. Programs include swim lessons, an ocean safety program (Junior Lifeguards), and lifeguard training courses. Scholarships are available for eligible families.

Waterfront Adaptation Plan Open Houses


If you couldn’t attend one of last week’s in-person open houses, there’s still an opportunity to participate. Join our virtual session on May 6 to learn more about the Draft Waterfront Adaptation Plan and share your input. The plan focuses on addressing coastal flooding and erosion over the next 30 years while enhancing beach access, recreation, boating, and habitat. Community feedback will play a key role in shaping the final plan and future improvements along the waterfront.

Operation Clean Sweep Volunteers "Dive In" to Keep City Harbor Clean


Santa Barbara Harbor's Operation Clean Sweep, a sea floor debris cleanup program, held its 17th annual event on Saturday, May 2. A team of volunteer divers, supported by close to 30 volunteer dock workers, removed 2,200 pounds of junk from beneath Marina 4.
