Vision Zero State Street Undercrossing Project Construction Begins October 2

The State Street undercrossing of Highway 101 is getting a major facelift, as the Vision Zero State Street Undercrossing Project is set to begin Monday, October 2. The Project connects the City’s two most active transportation-oriented neighborhoods: Downtown and the Waterfront. After many years of collaboration, an aesthetically pleasing design was developed that is reflective of the community. The project is expected to wrap up in 2025.

The Library Celebrates Banned Books Week 2023


The Library invites the community to celebrate the freedom to read this October with special events and book giveaways as part of Banned Books Week. To encourage access to information and the free expression of ideas, SBPL will distribute free copies of more than 250 unique titles that have been challenged historically or in recent years. This project is funded by an anonymous private donor.

REMINDER: All Sewer Lateral Repairs Require a Permit


All sewer lateral repairs require a permit, including lateral lining and backwater valve installations. Sewer Lateral Inspection Program (SLIP) participants must provide a copy of their permit(s) (some repairs require both a Public Works and Building and Safety permit) to staff to have their case closed.

Become a part of the Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Show just in time for the holiday season. Display your products to visitors and locals on Cabrillo Boulevard at the City's weekly open-air market every Sunday. Artisans must be residents of the County and create all items themselves to join.

Celestial Spectacle:

Free Eclipse Glasses and Stellar Library Events


On Saturday, October 14, an annular solar eclipse will be visible for millions of people in the Western Hemisphere. Since it's never safe to look directly at the sun without proper eye protection during an event like this, the Library will be giving out 4,000 eclipse glasses and hosting educational events to help the community observe this celestial phenomenon.
