9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Police and City Fire Departments invite the community to gather for a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. With heads bowed and hearts united, we honor the memories of those who were lost in the deadliest terrorist attacks on American soil. The ceremony will be held on the front steps of at the Police Department (215 E. Figueroa Street) Monday, September 11, at 8:30 a.m.

Volunteers repair section of trail damaged by winter storms.

Trail Restoration Volunteer Opportunity


The Parks and Recreation Department is looking to recruit up to 100 volunteers on Saturday, September 16, for another large-scale trail volunteer day. Volunteers of all experience levels are invited to join for a morning of trail work followed by a group picnic in the afternoon. Instruction, tools, and lunch will be provided. RSVPs are required.

Library Offers Reading Intervention Volunteer Tutor Training



The Library invites adults and teens looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity to become OG Tutors as part of this free one-on-one tutoring service for 1st - 4th graders. The Library will host a three-session tutor training on September 11, 14 and 18 for volunteers interested in supporting struggling students through the SBPL OG Readers Tutoring Program at the Central Library. CCTV Sewer Inspection Project Begins Next Week



The City will be conducting CCTV (closed-circuit television) inspection services on the City’s sewer system for the next three years. The City will start conducting work within the public right of way and easements located throughout the City beginning Monday, September 11. The goal of the project is to assess the status of the City’s wastewater collection system, identify locations requiring maintenance, and ensure the system’s reliability.

City Seeks Community Input on Grant Funding Usage


As the City begins to plan for its Annual Action Plan for the next fiscal year, the City is seeking input from our community partners, stakeholders and residents as we prioritize the potential uses for Community Development Block Grant funding in the fiscal year 2025. These funds are intended to primarily benefit the low- and moderate-income residents in the community. The City will be collecting survey responses through Friday, September 15.
