As you probably already know, there will be a solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Many people will be coming to the area for this event. Here are some precautions to take and what to expect.

Limit Travel

More people equals more traffic. Limit your traveling as much as possible on the day of, especially on I-35 and Hwy 77. If you do have to be somewhere, be sure to plan for longer than usual driving time. Also, continue to follow traffic laws and parking laws.

Food and Fuel

With a large amount of visitors coming to the area, necessities such as groceries and fuel could run low. Be prepared by filling up and grabbing groceries before the visitors arrive.

Eye Safety

Planning on watching the solar eclipse? The only safe way to watch it is through solar eclipse glasses. Regular sunglasses or looking through a phone, camera, or telescope will NOT protect you and can cause retinal burning.

Cellular Service

During the day of the eclipse, emergency services are expecting higher than usual call volumes. Due to these circumstances, high-priority calls will be given more attention. Before calling the emergency line. Please consider whether something is truly an emergency. Cell service in general may also be spotty due to high amounts of cellular usage, especially during the eclipse.

Solid Waste will run ONE DAY LATE the week of the eclipse. Commercial dumpsters and roll-offs will run as normal.

City facilities will be closed on Friday, March 29th, in observance of Good Friday. Solid Waste will run as normal.

March 5, 2024 Joint Primary Election

The 2024 Joint Primary Election will be held on March 5th. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Click here or the graphic to the left for more information.

Fire Code requires that at least 3 feet of clearance in all directions of a fire hydrant be maintained at all times; landscaping must be cut back accordingly.

In addition, Texas Transportation Code prohibits drivers from parking a vehicle – whether occupied or unoccupied – within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. (Also, Texas Law prohibits drivers from parking within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to a fire station and on the side of a street opposite a marked entrance to a fire station within 75 feet of that entrance.)

Beautiful flowers are about to bloom and make the perfect backdrop for some spring photos. Remember:

  • Watch out for snakes and ant hills

  • Be sure to have plenty of room where you park

  • Be cautious when exiting your car

  • Do not trespass

  • Picking flowers = Less flowers next year

Before you can become eaten alive by bugs on these Spring-like days, try these tips to prevent insect bites:

  • Use EPA insect repellent, preferably one with DEET.

  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Long sleeves and long pants are best.

  • Tuck your shirt into your pants and your pants into your socks to cover gaps where bugs can get to your skin.

  • Wear shoes outdoors.

  • Avoid using anything with heavy perfumes, such as soaps or shampoos.

  • Be careful around flowering plants, trash, compost, and stagnant water.

  • Keep food and drink covered when eating or drinking outside, especially sweet things.

  • Never disturb insect nests.

Recycling is picked up every other week on your designated collection day.

Bulk/Brush Day is March 2nd from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5158 South 12th Street, Robinson, TX. City staff will NOT be available to help place bulk items in the containers so make sure to bring enough help to get items in the 40-yard roll-off.

Reminder: customers have the option to set bulk/brush items at their curb to be collected weekly, during their normal collection day. For hazardous materials, customers may use the At Your Door Special Hazardous Waste Collection offered monthly with their Waste Management services.

The City of Robinson follows McLennan County on burn bans. On September 15th, McLennan County's Commissioners Court lifted the county-wide burn ban that had been in effect since July. However, it is important to keep checking back, since it can change depending on the circumstance. Although a burn ban is currently not going, burning still requires a permit, you can apply for one here.

Did You Know

Spring is coming and with spring comes storms. Watches and warnings can often become words that we interchange but are two different alerts. A “watch” means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop. A “warning” means that severe weather is occurring.

If you ever find yourself outdoors in questionable conditions and worry that you might not get a warning, Robinson has outdoor sirens to alert you. These outdoor sirens are tested on the first Friday of every month unless severe weather is possible that day. It's important to remember that the sirens are for those outdoors who might not be near communication systems like a TV, phone, or radio.

To receive weather warnings and watches directly to your phone. Use the QR code to sign up for the Waco-McLennan County Office of Emergency Management emergency alert system and you will receive a call or text with severe weather alerts. Or click here to sign up today.

Community News

Waco Sunrise Rotary Club has placed a Little Lending Library in Peplow Park in front of the covered pavilion. We invite anyone to take a book if they would like, but we also ask that you feel free to fill it with any books for any ages. (Please refrain from explicit, graphic, or occult subjects). Waco Sunrise Rotary Club fills the Lending Library weekly, and hopes you and your children enjoy the books, audiobooks, and DVDs we place in there. We have set up an account at Golden's Books as well, on Franklin. If you would like to donate your credit there or at Brazos Books to the Waco Sunrise Rotary Club's Little Lending Library, please feel free to do so. If you are having a garage sale with children's or young-adult books, DVDs or audiobooks, please feel free to call me, as I shop sales as well to fill the library. After your garage or yard sale has ended, if you have books left that you want me to pick them up, call me at 254-715-1868. We appreciate your generosity... we look forward to serving the Robinson Community in this way for years to come.
