Thanksgiving Fire Safety

Thanksgiving is one of the most common days for cooking fires. Whether the cause is linked to unwatched food or wearing the wrong clothes, cooking fires can be avoidable with a couple of quick tips. Here are some of those tips that can help keep the holiday safe.

  • Don't leave food unwatched, especially with food that is prepared using oil.
  • Always watch how much time you have left to cook your food.
  • Do not wear long sleeves or any clothing that could cause a risk of contact with fire.
  • Do not throw hot grease into the garbage. Instead, allow the oil to cool and put it into a sealable container before putting it in your garbage.
  • If you happen to have a grease fire, slide a lid over the pan, turn off your stove, and wait for the grease to cool.

Spotlight

The City occasionally examines water and wastewater rates and structures to ensure we are able to adequately fund water and wastewater utility systems, including all costs associated with operating, maintaining, and expanding utilities.

Since 2022, the city has experienced a substantial rise in costs associated with supplies required to operate our utility systems, such as fuel, chemicals, etc. In addition, the city engineer has identified several key projects necessary to ensure we continue running efficiently while meeting current and future demands.

A Quick Summary of What was Determined from the Study:

➡️ Utility rates and fees are not adequate to ensure the city can provide affordable and reliable service in the future

➡️ Not all users being charged equally nor does our current rate structure incentivize wise water use

Visit Water and Wastewater Rate Study in the FAQ section for questions and answers regarding the rate study completed by Raftelis.

At their November 7th City Council meeting, the council will consider the passage of an ordinance(s) authorizing the issuance of certificates of obligation not to exceed $10,000,000 to fund infrastructure projects related to water and wastewater systems improvements.

These projects will ensure the city can continue meeting the needs and demands of our customers for years to come by funding the following projects:

➡️ Replacement of the membrane system at the water treatment plant.

➡️ Expand the capacity at the water treatment plant.

➡️ Increase capacity by constructing the Water Reservoir 2.

➡️ Upgrade the Industrial Lift Station to increase the wastewater capacity.

Visit City of Robinson Certificates of Obligation in the FAQ section of our website to gain a better understanding of this notice.

Bulk/Brush Day is October 4th from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5158 South 12th Street, Robinson, TX. City staff will NOT be available to help place bulk items in the containers so make sure to bring enough help to get items in the 40-yard roll-off.

The City of Robinson follows McLennan County on burn bans. On September 15th, McLennan County's Commissioners Court lifted the county-wide burn ban that had been in effect since July. However, it is important to keep checking back, since it can change depending on the circumstance. Although a burn ban is currently not going, burning still requires a permit, you can apply for one here.

Waco Sunrise Rotary Club has placed a Little Lending Library in Peplow Park in front of the covered pavilion. We invite anyone to take a book if they would like, but we also ask that you feel free to fill it with any books for any ages. (Please refrain from explicit, graphic, or occult subjects, please). Waco Sunrise Rotary Club fills the Lending Library weekly, and hopes you and your children enjoy the books, audiobooks, and DVDs we place in there. We have set up an account at Golden's Books as well, on Franklin. If you would like to donate your credit there or at Brazos Books to the Waco Sunrise Rotary Club's Little Lending Library, please feel free to do so. If you are having a garage sale with children's or young-adult books, DVDs or audiobooks, please feel free to call me, as I shop sales as well to fill the library. After your garage or yard sale has ended, if you have books left that you want me to pick them up, call me at 254-715-1868. We appreciate your generosity... we look forward to serving the Robinson Community in this way for years to come.
