As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in San Mateo County continues to rise, the City of Brisbane is taking necessary precautionary steps to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of our community and employees. We are committed to taking a concerned, compassionate, and considered approach in all our actions.
Earlier today, six Bay Area counties took a bold, unified step to slow the spread of COVID-19 and preserve critical health care capacity across the region. The
Formal Health Order
, which affects Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties directs residents to shelter at home for three weeks beginning March 17. The order limits activity, travel, and business functions to only the most essential needs. Non-essential gatherings of any number of individuals from different households are also prohibited. The guidance comes after substantial input from the
CDC
and best practices from other health officials around the world. Click the image above to view a recording of the press conference, which took place this afternoon in San Jose.
People riding on public transit such as
SamTrans
or
BART
must comply with Social Distancing Requirements which
includes: maintaining at least a 6' distance from other individuals, washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds as frequently as possible or using hand sanitizer, covering coughs or sneezes (into the sleeve or elbow, not hands), regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces, and not shaking hands,
to the greatest extent possible.
We are at a pivotal moment in reducing the spread of this disease and it is going to take the voluntary compliance of all residents to flatten the curve and protect public health.
We made the decision today to close our doors at City Hall and the Marina Office for the time-being, however,
staff will still be performing essential City operations
. For instance, Planning, Building, and Public Works engineering functions will be limited to the electronic processing of emergency permits to address immediate life safety and health issues. If you have an emergency situation which requires a permit to correct, please contact the Building Division during business hours. For routine permits, the Building Department will continue to process active building permit applications electronically as staffing levels and availability allow.
For emergencies requiring Public Works field crew response (e.g., broken fire hydrant, illegal discharge to a storm drain, traffic signal not working, sewage backup), please call
24/7 Non-Emergency Dispatch at (415) 467-1212
.
We will evaluate these procedures on a daily basis as we learn more from County Public Health. A new webpage,
brisbaneca.org/coronavirus
,
has recently been set up to keep the community informed of the latest city updates.
