Highlights from this past month include observances for Juneteenth and Pride, guidance for re-opening restaurants, and a special birthday surprise from our Police and Fire Departments.

Life Lessons from a Newburgh Teacher

"Every morning by 8:30 a.m. Murphy would create a character piece for students. His character pieces are a small blurb of English text with a video attached to it. Each piece goes off of current news, and the feelings of students. Typically Murphy would link his pieces to clips from CBS’s ‘On the Road’ with Steve Hartman. “They’re nice and short, and they deal with the best of humanity,” said Murphy about the clips. “It wasn’t just negativity. Fire Damages Vacant Building in Newburgh

Gwendolyn Walker Completes Two-Sport Career at NFA

"When Gwendolyn Walker began playing tennis and golf at Newburgh Free Academy, she didn’t know much about either. Now, as she graduates from high school, she has experience and ability to play two sports for life. She has also excelled in the classroom and was named the Newburgh Free Academy’s valedictorian for the class of 2020." Read more..
City of Newburgh Planning Social Distancing Summer Recreation Programs

"The city is exploring a Slow Streets/Play Streets model to help people safely engage in recreational activities outdoors. In addition, the city is also engaging with local restaurants in an effort to accommodate increased outdoor seating, should specific roads end up being closed to vehicular traffic." Read more..
