Help The City of Alhambra Plan For Future
Potential Housing Growth
Join the Virtual Housing Element Community Forum on Feb. 17
The City of Alhambra is updating the Housing Element of its General Plan. The Housing Element guides the City's plans for housing and outlines important aspects like future housing needs, different housing types, zoning, and policies that can make housing more affordable and more available. This update project will run through October 2021, and the policies and programs in the Housing Element will be in effect from October 2021 through October 2029 (8 years).

The Housing Element is NOT a mandate to build new housing – it is a requirement to plan for housing. The State told the City of Alhambra that it must zone capacity for 6,808 new housing units over these 8-years, and the City is in the process of figuring out how and where to put this housing capacity. This capacity must address both market-rate and affordable housing needs. The City is working on creating new programs and strategies to ensure that these new housing units meet the identified needs of all community members. While this project involves zoning, it differs from the Alhambra Zoning Code Update project that is also underway. See https://www.alhambracodeupdate.com/ for more information on that project.

The City wants your input on how and where this housing should go, as well as what programs or strategies it should consider. There are lots of ways to get involved:
1) Attend the virtual community forum on Wednesday, February 17 from 6:00-7:30 PM. Registration is required with details to be posted on the project website soon.
2) Visit the project website at https://www.alhambrahousingelement.com/ and sign up for project emails.
3) Email your comments, questions, and ideas to HousingElement@CityofAlhambra.org. Comments in any language are welcome!
