Virtual Halloween Activities & Drive-Thru Events
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending against the traditional trick-or-treating this year.
Fortunately, there are other ways to participate in Halloween.
The 7th Annual Alhambra Pumpkin Run is going Virtual. Run or walk in your favorite neighborhood from October 24 – October 31 and tag @alhambrapumpkinrun on Instagram while you’re doing the 1K, 5K, or 10K. Proceeds will benefit grants for families who need help during the pandemic. There are also free online contests and challenges to get in the haunted Halloween spirit, including Virtual Costume Contest, Virtual Pumpkin Carving Contest and Virtual Home Decorating Contest.
The City is hosting several Drive-Thru events from 11am – 2pm on Halloween Day. Head to Granada Park to pick up a pumpkin to carve, Alhambra Park for a sweet treat or get spooked in the Haunted House at the Library Parking Lot. Visit our website for more information.

General Municipal Election
The deadline to register to vote for the General Municipal Election is October 19th. Several candidates are running for Alhambra City Council and Alhambra Unified School District Board of Education. Visit the City Clerk's website to learn more about the candidates. You can also learn more about local ballot measures here. In addition to mailing your ballot, you will have the option of returning them at these Vote By Mail Ballot Drop Boxes beginning October 5th. One of them is located at the Library on First Street, and the other is located at Granada Park. More information on Vote Centers will be available on the city's website soon.
Complete Your Census Today!
The deadline to fill out the census is almost here. Time is running out to make sure you are counted. Fill it out now online at my2020census.gov or call the Pasadena Census Office at 626-314-8635 for help in English, Spanish, Chinese or Korean. The Secretary of Commerce has announced a target date of October 5, 2020 to conclude the census self-response and field data collection operations.
When each person in every household is counted, California will get its fair share of federal funding for schools, health care, housing, transportation, and more. Completing the Census matters because it influences how much federal funding California receives for these programs and more:

Local businesses need help during this challenging time. They've had to change the way they operate to comply with the County Health Orders. If you're wondering which businesses are open, which restaurants have outdoor dining, who's offering curbside pick-up or delivery, visit the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce's website for an updated list with this information.
New Officers Hired

Chief Tim Vu swore in two new police officers this month. Officer Jose Amparo has five years patrol experience as a police officer with the Los Angeles Unified School Police Department. 
Officer Jose Zamora has 14 years as a police officer with the Los Angeles Unified School Police Department. Both are eager and energetic to work patrol as Alhambra’s newest officers and serve the Alhambra community!
Fire Department Promotion

Fire Captain Michael Brown has been promoted to the Battalion Chiefs rank. He now takes command of the "B" shift, in replacement of retired Battalion Chief Ed Guerrero.
"Battalion Chief Brown has established new standards of professionalism and preparedness, including facilitating training for firefighters to be better equipped in serving the residents of Alhambra," said Chief Tom Phelps. "I applaud his efforts and look forward to his continued stellar leadership." 
New Library Director
The Alhambra Civic Center has a new Library Director. Hilda LohGuan has over 24 years of local library experience. She has worked on joint projects with other departments, writing grants, and helping residents bridge the digital divide. Welcome Hilda!
Fall Leisure Classes
Want to learn new things all from the comfort of your own home? Join a virtual class. Fall Leisure Classes are available for all ages and interests including dance, yoga, art, and more!
