Call for Art: Art Images for Utility Box Wraps
The City is seeking art images to be reproduced on vinyl and wrapped on utility boxes in the City. Artists may submit images to the City for review by the Public Art Committee. Images may be of outdoor photography, paintings, and graphic art.

Calling all Arlington residents! The City of Arlington is hosting an open house to get your input on the 2024 Comprehensive Plan. Come by Airport Office (18204 59th Avenue NE) on April 27th between 4-7:00 p.m. to share ideas & help shape your neighborhood's future.
Presentations will be given at 4:00, 5:00 & 6:00 p.m., so pick the one that fits your schedule!

Stilly Valley Youth Dynamics Auction Dinner Event April 22
Join Stilly Valley Youth Dynamics April 22, at Arlington Free Methodist Church for their first live and in person auction since 2020. Help them raise $50,000 towards Friday Fundays, drop-in centers, weekly rock club and adventure trips. Youth Dynamics will have a fun evening adventuring together with live music, dinner, dessert dash and auction.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with live music, mocktails, and silent auction, followed by dinner and evening programing. Childcare will be provided.

Snohomish County K9 Foundation & Elemental Cider Celebrate National Police Dog Day
On May 15th from 5-9 p.m., join the SCK9 Foundation & Elemental Cider to celebrate National Police Dog Day.
Enjoy a beverage or pizza from Elemental Cider, check out the Snohomish County K9 foundation merchandise, and meet the K9s. Visits from handlers and dogs will be available through the evening, as well as demonstrations and meet & greets!
Elemental is generously donating a portion of the evening's profits to the SCK9F to help continue their mission to support the paws that enforce the laws!

Mother's Day 5K Fun Run Opportunity
Looking for a Mother's Day event? The Holy Transformation Academy is hosting a fun run, with local food trucks, goodie bags for attendees, and an opportunity to donate your used tennis shoes. The 5K event will take place at the Arlington Airport, at 9 a.m. on Saturday May 13th, 2023. Children under 12 years old are free to attend, and strollers are allowed!
Small businesses from Arlington have been invited to participate in the run by offering items for giveaway bags, which will be given to each person who registers for the run.

Utility Improvement and Pavement Preservation Project
No work will occur next week on the 2022 Utility Improvement and Pavement Preservation project to allow for the required cure time of the pavement before final striping can be installed. This project is essentially complete besides final striping and road surface treatment which will occur in late May or early June. No further updates will be posted regarding this project.

169th Street Connection Project and Online Survey
The City was recently awarded a grant from the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, to receive FHWA funds for $3.65 Million to complete a missing roadway segment of 169th Street, from 37th Ave to 43rd Avenue, connecting Smokey Point Blvd to 43rd Avenue and 51st Avenue. As the City moves forward with this design, we would like the community's input on what features they would like to see, this survey is intended to have your input be part of the design process.

Community Emergency Response Team Training Offered
North County Fire/EMS is offering CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training. Limited spaces are available. Open to adults and youth ages 13 to 17 with parent's permission, and youth ages 11 and 12 with parents participation. There is no charge for the three-day class. This three-day class has as many training hours as an eight-week schedule. The scheduling makes the pre-session assignment important so participants are familiar with the purpose, principles, and vocabulary of CERT. The online course, IS-317 Introduction to CERT, is an interactive course that is completed at your own pace. Participants need a FEMA SID (Student Identification Number) to register for and participate in any training provided by FEMA.

Amateur Radio Training Offered: An integral piece of emergency plans
The Snohomish ACS team will be partnering with the City of Arlington in offering classes to allow beginners to obtain their first Amateur Radio license. Classes include the textbook, classroom instruction and the FCC test over two days. The class will be held at the Arlington City Council Chambers June 7 and 9, 2023 (Wednesday and Friday) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $30.00 cash or check paid directly to the instructor.

Food and Your Mood: The Link Between Nutrition and Mental Health
Research shows there is a direct link between what we eat and how we feel. During this presentation, participants will learn the impact certain foods have on mood, as well as tips on how establishing a healthy diet can lead to improved mental health and wellbeing. This class will be led by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from Sound Dietitians, LLC, and is open to anyone in the community. Not able to attend? Domestic Violence Services: Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention
Join Elder Abuse Advocate, Michelle Burke, with Domestic Violence Services, to discuss what elder abuse is and how to recognize it. She will speak about the work she does with survivors of elder abuse, share resources for victims, and discuss what to do if you or someone you know is being abused. This will be an interactive presentation (with BINGO!) There will be time for questions and discussion afterward.

Kids Health and Safety Fair at the Arlington Farmer’s Market
This year, the Kids Health and Safety Fair is focusing on water safety. Free fitted life jackets will be available for kids ages 18 and under, while supplies last. The child must be present to receive a life jacket. Kids can bring their bike or scooter and helmet to ride the fun and challenging skills course. Check out police cars, fire trucks and other vehicles. A number of organizations are attending to share information about water safety and other health and safety concerns.

CITY OF ARLINGTON COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
The City of Arlington is currently working on the 2024 Comprehensive Plan to align with requirements of the Washington State Growth Management Act and align with Puget Sound Regional Council Policy Vision 2050.
Comprehensive plans are the centerpiece of local planning efforts. A comprehensive plan articulates a series of goals, objectives, policies, actions, and standards that are intended to guide the decisions of elected officials and local government staff.
The City needs input from the residents of Arlington.
