City's Annual Disposal and Recycling Event

Arlington residents were excited to dispose of and recycle unwanted household items

at the annual Disposal and Recycling Event held September 24.  Approximately 126 vehicles passed through the gates. The Waste Management roll-off containers were filled with over 6 tons of an assortment of items and debris. Total Reclaim collected 40 refrigerators and/or freezers and 11 air-conditioning units for recycling. In addition, 6 pallets of TVs, 1 pallet of computers, and 1 pallet of monitors were collected along with 1000 pounds of printers, keyboards, etc. for recycling by Truck on Call. 4,060 lbs. of metal were taken by Snohomish County Public Works for recycling as well.

A big thanks goes out to our Maintenance and Operations staff for their hard work during the event!

Airport Completes Main Runway Project

The Airport recently completed the pavement mill and overlay of runway 16/34 last month. The 5,300-foot runway was last resurfaced in the 1990s, and this project has been part of the Airport’s planning since the 2012 Masterplan and current Capital Improvement Plan.

The 2.9 million dollar project came in on time and under budget with over a 90% grant contribution from the FAA, Bi-partisan Infrastructure monies, and WSDOT Aviation funding.

There was minimal impact on users and tenants of the Airport during the project, despite a couple of full airport closures during the project. All that remains to be done is a second coat of paint, to be applied soon.

Airport Office Supports Food Drive

The Arlington Airport staff is hosting its third annual fall food drive. The food drive will run from October 1 to November 18. All food collected will be donated to the Arlington Community Food Bank. Please bring shelf-stable food items to donate to the the Airport Office.

Volunteers from Arlington Rotary

Improve Fire Mountain Scout Camp

Fire Mountain Scout Camp, located just outside of Mount Vernon in the foothills of the North Cascades, recently received updates to scout cabins, thanks to work by City Administrator Paul Ellis and the Rotary team.

Over the history of Fire Mountain Scout Camp, the camp has seen many renovations. Projects included updating the swim beach at the north end of the lake, renovating and adding swim beach changing facilities, repairing and replacing the dining hall deck, adding new staff cabins and shower houses, adding a boat house, creating a new parking lot, updating the water system, and much more!

Additional service projects at Fire Mountain Scout Camp are in the works, with the end goal that the camp will be a destination for all of the Boy Scout troops in America.

Pictured below are members of the Arlington Rotary operating a track hoe in order to excavate and demolish the camp's old cabins, which will be replaced with newly updated structures. Thanks, Arlington Rotary, for your dedication to our community and our youth!
