CALIFORNIA CLIMATE BILL CREDIT
|
|
Azusa Light & Water (ALW) electric customers will receive a
one-time $152.44 credit
on their bills as a distribution of proceeds from the sale of surplus greenhouse gas reduction allowances (“GHG Allowances”). The credit will appear on customers’ July or August electricity bills as a line-item entitled
“CA CLIMATE CREDIT.”
California’s cap-and-trade emission reduction program, established under Assembly Bill 32, uses GHG Allowances to measure and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases to reduce climate change in California. The regulation provides that the proceeds from the sale of surplus credits may be i) used to further reduce greenhouse gases or ii) returned to customers in the form of a credit on their bills. ALW has elected the customer return option and issue a one-time bill credit to all electric customers, which may help those who are struggling with the economic restrictions imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
