SUMMER CELEBRATION AND CONSERVATION
CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY SAFELY

The Azusa City Councilmembers, Azusa Police Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department would like to remind residents to use caution to ensure a safe Fourth of July Holiday. If your celebration is going to include fireworks, only use the Safe and Sane variety in legally designated areas of the City.

Remember the following restrictions:

  • Safe and sane fireworks may only be discharged on July 4th from noon to midnight in residential zones
  • May not be discharged at any other time or place
  • May not be discharged north of Sierra Madre Avenue
  • Firecrackers, bottle rockets and mortars are illegal!

The fines for the discharge of illegal fireworks in Azusa start at $1000 and increase to $2000 for a second infraction and $5000 for any subsequent infraction.

The sale of fireworks starts at noon on July 1st. For more information, please call the Fourth of July Hotline at 626-812-5010.

SIGN UP FOR FLEX ALERT

Hot summer months are here again. Extreme hot weather drives up power demand due to air conditioning use, making available power supply scarce. This usually happens in the early evening hours when solar resources are no longer available, but temperatures remain high and consumers are returning home and switching on air conditioners, lights and appliances.

When a shortage of electricity is imminent, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the state's grid operator, issues a Flex Alert so consumers can prepare and avoid a system-wide power outage. It is important for consumers to reduce their energy use when a Flex Alert is issued. Sign up for Flex Alert at www.flexalert.org.
CONTINUE TO SAVE WATER

Most of the State is under extreme dryness due to lack of rain and warm weather. Water supplies in statewide and in the San Gabriel Valley remain below average. All these signs point to the worsening drought conditions that prompted Governor Newsom to expand the State's drought emergency to include 41 of the 58 counties in May.

Azusa Light & Water (ALW) encourages its customers to continue to save water by watering only three days per week this summer and adhere to its water use restrictions.

ALW offers rebates for the purchase of water-saving devices and converting lawns to drought-tolerant or California friendly plants to help customers save water. Go to www.azusalw.com to learn more.
