SUMMER TIME READINESS
DON'T BE LEFT IN THE DARK THIS SUMMER

As we head towards summer, the chance of significant heatwaves will stress afternoon power demands due to increased air conditioning loads as well as overall solar generation decrease as the sun comes down. When this occurs, there is a large potential for rotating power outages that may require utility load reductions to avoid system-wide blackouts. When a shortage of electricity is imminent, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the state’s grid operator, will require Azusa Light and Water (ALW), along with all other California electric utilities, to manually reduce electric load to ensure there are enough power reserves in the electric system.

When ALW receives the order from CAISO, ALW will cut power to its City system facilities first which may be sufficient to comply with CAISO load reduction orders. When cutting City facilities is not sufficient, ALW will initiate temporary interruption to a block of customers for about an hour. These temporary hourly outages will continue a block at a time until the system shortage event has passed.

When CAISO predicts a rotating power outage is imminent, ALW will advise its customers via the City website, email, and social media. Updates will also be provided as more information becomes available throughout the day of the power shortage event. We apologize we are not able to notify individual customers prior to interruptions due to dynamic system conditions. Load reduction orders by the grid operator must be executed upon receiving the order and the list of customers interrupted will change throughout the event.

Thank you for your help in conserving energy!

CELEBRATE JULY 4TH SAFELY

As we enter the month of June, the City of Azusa would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the discharge of illegal fireworks is strictly prohibited within our city limits.

Although July 4th is slightly over a month away, summer heat is upon us. Let's all do our part to reduce the risk of serious injuries and fire danger!
TAKE ACTION TO STOP MOSQUITOS

Mosquitoes love the summer just as much as we do. Mosquito bites can spread different diseases. Every year, the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health confirms numerous West Nile virus cases, including deaths.
Throughout the state, invasive mosquitoes, called Aedes mosquitoes, are constantly infesting new neighborhoods.

To learn more how to protect yourself from mosquitos, visit the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District (SGVMVCD) website.
