MAY 2021
WATER CONSERVATION CRITICAL
THIS SUMMER
After a dry winter, water supplies in the San Gabriel Valley and statewide are below average due to the lack of rainfall. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, more than half of the state is already in a severe drought and the State’s major reservoirs are half empty.

Azusa Light & Water’s (ALW) water supplies come from local groundwater, treated surface water from the San Gabriel River Watershed, and purchased water from the State through the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (SGVMWD) connection. The Main San Gabriel Basin groundwater supplies and reservoirs remain below historic levels. The SGVMWD data below provides a snapshot of local water supplies as of February. As summer continues to heat up and with no rain in the forecast, water supplies will continue to fall to a critical level, ALW urges all water users to do the best they can to conserve water.

Through smart water management and early adoption of water conservation measures, ALW weathered a multi-year emergency drought declaration that began in 2014. Currently, ALW implements a seasonal watering schedule and other water use restrictions. During winter months (November-March), ALW allows a two days per week watering schedule and three days per week in summer months (April-October), depending on street address. To minimize water evaporation, watering between 9 AM to 6 PM is not allowed. All mandatory water conservation measures continue to be in effect.

To report water waste, please contact the Drought Hotline at (626) 812-5119 or online.
