City facilities to be closed in observance of Memorial Day
Most City facilities will be closed on Memorial Day, May 29. Trash or curbside recycling collection will not be affected. More information. The Burleson Recreation Center will be celebrating Memorial Day with free entry to the outdoor pool Monday, May 29 from 1 - 7:00 p.m.
First Hot Sounds of Summer concert tonight; street closures 
The first free  90-minute concert in Old Town kicks off tonight at 7:30 p.m. with the Bubba Harper 24/7 band.  

Street closures in Old Town Burleson (124 W. Ellison St.) will start at 4 p.m. today and every Friday through June 30, come down early and eat at one of the more than half a dozen restaurants, then set up your lawn chairs and blankets in the street. Food and drink are allowed at the concerts, but patrons are strongly discouraged from bringing glass bottles, due to safety reasons.  More information
Golfing with President Bush
Hidden Creek Golf Course Golf Pro, Greg Gregory, was invited to play in the George W. Bush Presidential Center Warrior Open. 

The Bush Institute's Warrior Open began in 2011 for United States military personnel seriously wounded or injured since September 11, 2001. Each golf team consists of three warriors and one golf pro.

"It was such an honor to be chosen to participate in the open," said Gregory. "To be around these warriors and President Bush was an eye opening and humbling privilege." 
 

This year's Warrior Open was played at Prestonwood Golf Club in Dallas on Monday, May 22. Gregory's team consisted of Scott Adams, Sergeant First Class, United States Army, Retired; Timothy Gaestel, Sergeant, United States Army, Purple Heart recipient; and Michael Meyer, Corporal, United States Marine Corps, Retired.

If you carry a balance on your credit cards, the Burleson Public Library is hosting a workshop by Lorene Collier Purcy from Mindset Matters Consulting & Education LLC that  will help you to get out of credit card debt quickly.

Paw Pals Animal Care Academy  
Burleson Animal Services is proud to offer the Paw Pals Animal Care Academy, a free educational program for area youth interested in animal welfare. This academy is on Saturdays, in June 2017, including June 3, 10, 17 and 24. 

The shelter is hosting the academy for students who are entering the 6th grade in the 2017/2018 school year. The class is limited to 15 students who must either live in Burleson or attend school in Burleson. 
Sign up for Summer Reading 
Summer Reading at the Burleson Library begins Thursday, June 1. The whole family can participate in this program and registration is currently open. 

All you have to do to win prizes is log the books you read. You are eligible for a prize at 5, 10 and 15 books.   

Every Monday a new challenge opens up. Completing the challenges can earn you more prizes. Every book you read and Challenge you complete will earn you more chances to win gift cards.

 
All reading time must be entered by Monday, July 31.

Pet of the Week 
Meet Titan, a three-year-old pit bull mix. He is super sweet and loving but would do best in a home without kids. He is neutered, so his adoption fee is only $55. 

Come by and spend some time with this sweet baby he loves attention and loves hanging out with his humans.
