Vote Centers Open Ahead of the November 3 Election

Calabasas residents have several local options to cast or return their ballots ahead of the November 3 General Election. Founder’s Hall, 200 Civic Center Way, will serve as an 11-day Vote Center beginning Saturday, October 24, and the Calabasas Community Center, 27040 Malibu Hills Road, will serve as a four-day Vote Center beginning Saturday, October 31. Both locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on days leading up to the election and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters may cast their ballot in person or return a completed Vote by Mail ballot at any Vote Center in Los Angeles County.

A 24-hour Ballot Drop Box is also available in front of Calabasas City Hall and the Library at 100 Civic Center Way. Vote by Mail ballots may also be returned by mail with no postage required and must be postmarked by November 3.

Want to keep track of your Vote by Mail ballot? “Where’s My Ballot?” is a free service available to registered voters that provides automated updates on when to expect your ballot, where it is in the process and when it has been processed, verified and counted.

New Operating Hours for the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center

Following a review of facility usage, the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center will begin updated operating hours on Monday, October 5. The new hours will be:

Monday through Thursday: 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Friday: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The updated schedule adds one hour of operation on both Saturday and Sunday while adjusting weekday evening hours to better align with facility usage. Staff will continue to monitor participation throughout the year and evaluate whether future adjustments are needed.

Mark Your Calendar for the Great California ShakeOut

Get ready to Drop, Cover, and Hold On as Calabasas joins communities across California for the Great California ShakeOut on Thursday, October 15, at 10:15 a.m. The annual earthquake drill is an opportunity to practice these important safety steps and consider how prepared your household, workplace, or school would be when an earthquake occurs. Practicing ahead of time can help make the appropriate response more familiar when seconds matter.

How Goats Support a More Prepared and Sustainable Calabasas

Since arriving in Calabasas in March, the City’s hardworking herd of goats has been doing more than clearing brush. Targeted grazing is an important part of the City’s approach to wildfire preparedness and sustainable vegetation management. By grazing in strategic, fire-prone areas, the goats help reduce dry vegetation and other potential wildfire fuels, including in areas that can be difficult to access with traditional equipment. In partnership with the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority and Los Angeles County Fire Department, this nature-based approach helps create defensible space around the community while supporting ongoing efforts to protect Calabasas’ open spaces and prepare for wildfire.

City of Calabasas and EPIC Partnership Earns City’s First Helen Putnam Award for Excellence

The City of Calabasas is proud to celebrate a historic achievement, earning its first Helen Putnam Award for Excellence from the League of California Cities for its partnership with Emergency Preparedness in Calabasas (EPIC), a resident-led Fire Safe Council. The award recognizes a collaborative approach to emergency preparedness that brings together City staff, volunteers, public safety partners and residents to help strengthen community resilience. Since formally partnering in 2022, the City and EPIC have expanded Firewise USA participation throughout Calabasas, distributed more than 800 emergency radios to help residents communicate when power and cell service are unavailable, developed an emergency preparedness app with offline resources and launched a home hardening rebate program to help residents reduce wildfire risks around their properties. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of everyone who has contributed to these efforts and to what can be accomplished when the City and community work together to help prepare Calabasas for future emergencies.

Applications Now Open for SCAG’s Future Leaders Initiative

Young adults passionate about their communities and interested in helping shape the future of Southern California are encouraged to apply for the Southern California Association of Governments’ (SCAG) Future Leaders Initiative. This six-month program gives emerging leaders an opportunity to build their knowledge, skills and connections while gaining firsthand insight into regional planning and civic decision-making. Participants will connect with planning professionals and decisionmakers, learn how local and regional governments work together to address challenges facing Southern California and explore ways to become more engaged in their communities. The program includes a $500 stipend and is open to young adults interested in civic leadership and regional planning. Applications are due Tuesday, October 27 at 5 p.m.

Gates Canyon Fencing Project Complete

Improvements are complete at Gates Canyon Park, with new fencing now installed along Thousand Oaks Boulevard to match the fencing that was added around Brandon’s Village playground in 2024. The new composite fencing creates a more consistent look throughout the park, improves safety, and provides a longer-lasting alternative to the previous wood fencing that will help reduce ongoing maintenance. The $100,000 project was funded through a grant from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District. Thank you to all the City staff and project partners who helped make this improvement possible!

Capture Calabasas Photo Contest

What does Calabasas look like through your eyes? From scenic open spaces and neighborhood parks to community events and everyday moments around town, the Capture Calabasas Photo Contest is your chance to share the places and experiences that make the community special. Submit your favorite photos, taken within Calabasas city limits, for a chance to win a prize and have your photography featured in future City publications, social media, calendars and more.

Photos can be entered in one of four categories: City of Calabasas, Parks Make Life Better, Open Space, or Community Services Department classes, programs, events and sports.

Door Replacements

Older exterior doors can contribute to energy loss and higher energy costs. Through the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, property owners can finance energy-efficient door upgrades and pay through their property taxes, helping improve insulation, reduce energy bills and enhance the comfort and appearance of their home or business. Program participation and funding are subject to approval.

Review how you can use PACE financing through either Renew Financial or Home Run Financing.
