CHINO, CA (October 9, 2024) -- On Friday, October 4, 2024, at approximately 9:13 a.m., the Chino Police Department received a report of a missing person, identified as Lisa Culp, 53, of Chino. Culp was reported missing by her husband after she left their home early that morning and did not return.
Although there were no immediate signs that Culp was at risk or in danger, Chino Police officers initiated a search by checking local hospitals, jails, and parks, as well as reaching out to her relatives and friends. Additionally, Culp’s vehicle was entered into the statewide database to issue a missing person alert.
Later that day, Culp’s vehicle was discovered abandoned at a gas station in the area of Central Avenue and the 60 Freeway and was towed by the property owner. Chino Police personnel reviewed surveillance footage from the area and observed Culp walking away from the gas station in the early morning hours of October 4 and heading northbound on Central Avenue.
Officers conducted a comprehensive search of the area, including checks at nearby hotels, but were unable to locate Culp. On Saturday, October 5, the search efforts were expanded using additional video evidence. An extensive operation was carried out in the vicinity of the 60 Freeway and Central Avenue involving drones, off-highway vehicles, and officers on foot.
During the search, officers discovered the body of a deceased female on the freeway, which appeared to have been involved in a traffic collision. The San Bernardino Coroner’s Office has identified the victim found on the freeway as Culp. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified and has since taken over the hit-and-run investigation.
The facts and circumstances surrounding Culp’s disappearance remain under investigation; however, foul play is not suspected at this time.
Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact Detective Barber at (909) 334-3144. Potential witnesses to the collision on the freeway or anyone with information regarding the collision are asked to contact the California Highway Patrol at (909) 980-3994.
