CHINO, CA (September 5, 2024) -- The Chino Police Department is proud to announce the official launch of two important community-focused programs: The Guardian Program and the Blue Envelope Program. These programs will be officially introduced at the first Inclusion Community Celebration on September 14, 2024.
The Guardian Program is a voluntary program designed to assist police officers when interacting with individuals who have disabilities, including but not limited to autism, dementia, schizophrenia, and other developmental or mental challenges. This voluntary program provides officers with essential information such as emergency contacts, physical descriptions, known routines, and specific needs, which help improve response and communication during emergencies.
The Blue Envelope Program is aimed at enhancing communication between law enforcement and drivers with conditions such as autism, dementia, or anxiety. Individuals participating in the program will carry a blue envelope containing important documents like vehicle registration and insurance information, which can be presented to officers during traffic stops or other encounters. The goal is to reduce misunderstandings and ensure respectful, effective communication between law enforcement and community members with special needs.
Both programs are free of charge and represent the Chino Police Department's dedication to fostering inclusivity and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. The Inclusion Community Celebration on September 14, 2024, will serve as the official launch of these critical programs. This event is exclusively for the Special Needs Community and registration is required. Visit cityofchino.org/inclusion to register.
