| | September City Council Meeting Recap | | During their Regular Meeting on September 16th, City Council presented three proclamations:
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - Proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and encouraged the community to support organizations such as the American Cancer Society in their efforts to research and develop new treatments.
Hispanic Heritage Month - Proclaimed September 15th through October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month, and honored people of Hispanic and Latino heritage for their contributions to our local community and nation.
Constitution Week - Proclaimed September 17th through 23rd as Constitution Week in honor of the 238th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. Members of the Chestatee River Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution accepted the proclamation.
Other actions during the September Work Session and Regular Meeting included:
- Approved the low proposal from Greater Georgia Contracting for construction of a storage building at Dobbs Creek Recreation Center.
- Approved an ordinance to regulate disruptions of public meetings, based on recommendations from the Georgia Supreme Court that allow local governments to maintain order without infringing on First Amendment rights of citizens.
- Denied a Conditional Use Permit application from Samaritan Holdings, LLC that sought to allow construction of 10 townhomes in the Central Business Use District at 102 Samaritan Drive. The future land use of this property is commercial; therefore, the CUP request was not in conformance with the City's Comprehensive Plan.

- Approved purchase of approximately 3.212 acres of property on Canton Highway near the intersection of Dr. Bramblett Road and State Route 20 for future Utilities infrastructure improvements.

| | Something Rotten! Continues through Oct. 12th | |
Director Lisa Sherouse, who has brought "The Producers" and "Sweeney Todd," among many other hit shows to the School Street Playhouse, is at it again with "Something Rotten!"
"Something Rotten!" is a musical comedy that turns the Renaissance on its head. Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are struggling playwrights living in the shadow of the rock star of their day: William Shakespeare. Like "The Producers," "Something Rotten!" reveals the absurdity of show business through a pair of well-meaning, but thoroughly out of their depth, protagonists as they attempt to create a theatrical masterpiece (or at least a commercially successful one).
"Something Rotten!" (by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick) continues through Oct. 12th. Thursday, Friday & Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday shows begin at 2:30 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets to any performance.
