The Cumming Farmers Market relocated on Oct. 1st to the Cumming City Center and is now a year-round market.

The market's new schedule at the City Center is:

  • October to May - 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays only
  • June to September - 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays and Wednesdays

Sept. 15th to Oct.15th Recognized as Hispanic Heritage Month
During the September Regular City Council Meeting (the September Work Session was cancelled), City Council took the following actions:

  • Proclaimed Sept . 15th through October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month. The proclamation honors all residents of Cumming and Forsyth County of Hispanic and Latino heritage who contribute to the success and cultural diversity of our local community.

  • Accepted a bid from Bobcat of Atlanta for purchase of a mini-excavator for use by Cumming Utilities. The item had previously been approved for purchase from the low bidder, Flint Equipment, in June; however, Flint is unable to provide the item until spring of 2023 and the department is currently renting a mini-excavator. In light of the situation, the department director asked City Council to reapprove the second lowest bid from Bobcat of Atlanta.

  • Approved a variance request from Jagannah Properties LLC. which will allow for an increase in off-street parking spaces at medical offices on Sanders Road.

  • Approved the low proposal from Jerry Pruitt Contracting for removal and replacement of high-voltage power lines at the Cumming Utilities Water Production Plant.

  • Approved the low proposal from Compass Security for purchase of security cameras at the Cumming Utilities Water Distribution Shop.

  • Approved the purchase of a rotating influent drum screen at the Cumming Utilities Advanced Water Reclamation Facility.

  • Approved installation of 12-inch water line by Jasper Grading and Pipeline along Vision Drive inside the Cumming City Center instead of the originally planned 8-inch line.

  • Approved the low proposal from Universal Underground Utility Contractors, Inc. for Highway 369 water line crossing over Settingdown Creek. Since the project is located in the City's purchased easement, the Georgia Department of Transportation will reimburse the City for the construction cost of the project.

Welcome 2022-23 Youth Council Members
The City of Cumming welcomed a new group of Youth Council members in September. These students will serve during the 2022-23 school year.

The City's Youth Council is comprised of nine students from Forsyth Central High School and the Alliance Academy for Innovation, the two high schools located within the Cumming City Limits. Students from both schools can apply to participate in the City’s Youth Council. All applications are reviewed by a committee, which selects the nine Youth Council members. Much like the City of Cumming’s elected body, the Youth Council meets each month and members elect the leadership roles of Mayor, Mayor Protem, City Administrator, and Clerk.

The Mission Statement of the City of Cumming Youth Council is “to provide local youth with the experience of working with city government while obtaining a sense of civic responsibility, as well as the opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership skills.”

The 2022-23 Youth Council, pictured from left to right, are: Top Row – Jackson Moskowitz, Mayor (Alliance); Ann Kim, Mayor Protem (Alliance); Camden Malone, City Administrator (FCHS); Middle Row – Gowri Vattenad, Clerk (Alliance); Joao Conde Botelho Da Costa (FCHS); Joshua Chelliah (Alliance); Bottom Row – Pradyun Pulipaka (FCHS); Makayla Spriggs (FCHS); and Akriti Talwar (FCHS).

Among the volunteers were several Cumming Utilities and City Hall employees, who helped out at the Bald Ridge Marina location. Volunteers at this site collected and disposed of four tons of litter, while volunteers at Forsyth County's two other sites - Port Royale Marina and Shady Grove Campground - collected another 16 tons. Way to go Cumming Utilities and all the other Shore Sweep volunteers!
