City Council Proclaims March as Blood Clot Awareness Month | |
During their Regular Meeting on February 18th, Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council proclaimed March as 'Blood Clot and Pulmonary Embolism Awareness Month' in the City of Cumming. The families of Finley Kruchten and Bryce Standfield accepted the proclamation. Both Finley and Bryce were student football players - Finley at Denmark High School, and Bryce at Furman University - who perished due to undiagnosed pulmonary embolism. The families encourage others to be aware of the symptoms of blood clots and pulmonary embolism, which can include redness, inflammation, soreness, pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest discomfort or pain. They also encourage awareness of genetic blood clotting disorders, such as Factor V Leiden, which was undiagnosed in both Finley and Bryce, and to not hesitate to seek medical attention if blood clot or pulmonary embolism is suspected.
City Council also took the following actions during the February Work Session and Regular Meeting:
- Approved the purchase of two Dodge Chargers and one Dodge Durango, all with outfitting, for the Cumming Police Department.
- Recognized three new Cumming Police officers after they were sworn in by Police Chief PJ Girvan: Elijah Allen, Alex Pinkney, and Jacob Weaver. Police Chief Girvan also promoted Officer Gabe Bunch to the rank of Sergeant for his work on the Real Time Crime Center and other leadership duties.
- Approved alcohol sales permits for Washington's Wharf and SliceAbility, both located at the Cumming City Center.
- Approved an amendment to the City's Alcohol Ordinance which allows businesses to hold sales related to alcohol, such as "happy hours" or other alcohol specials during specific time periods.
- Approved the purchase of a Chevrolet 2500HD pick-up truck for use by the Cumming Street Department.
- Approved the low proposal from Lang Signs for installation of a new entrance sign at the Cumming Utilities Advanced Water Reclamation Facility.
