August City Council Meeting Recap

During their August Regular Meeting (the August Work Session was cancelled), Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council took the following actions:

  • At the request of the applicant, postponed a public hearing and vote associated with a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) application from Samaritan Holdings LLC until the September 16th Regular Meeting.
  • In a 3-2 vote, denied a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for Highway Nine Investments LLC, which would have allowed for an automobile sales and brokerage business specializing in "luxury" vehicles at 334 Dahlonega Street.
  • Authorized Mayor Troy Brumbalow to sign the Capital Improvements Element, a listing of projects required to be updated annually, and then have staff submit the document to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for review, as required by state law.
  • Approved the low proposal from Hanson Lab Solutions for new cabinets at the Cumming Utilities' Water Production lab.

Something Rotten! at School Street Playhouse

Director Lisa Sherouse, who has brought "The Producers" and "Sweeney Todd," among many other hit shows to the School Street Playhouse, is at it again with "Something Rotten!"

"Something Rotten!" is a musical comedy that turns the Renaissance on its head. Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are struggling playwrights living in the shadow of the rock star of their day: William Shakespeare. Like "The Producers," "Something Rotten!" reveals the absurdity of show business through a pair of well-meaning, but thoroughly out of their depth, protagonists as they attempt to create a theatrical masterpiece (or at least a commercially successful one).

"Something Rotten!" (by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick) opens Sept. 19th and continues through Oct. 12th. Thursday, Friday & Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday shows begin at 2:30 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets to any performance.

Holiday Closure:

The Cumming Aquatic Center will be OPEN on Labor Day from 1-6 p.m. (this is the final day of the Outdoor Leisure Pool's regular season).
