Honor Veterans on Friday, May 23rd at City Center

The City of Cumming's Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held Friday, May 23rd at 11 a.m. at the Cumming City Center's Lou Sobh Amphitheater. This year's keynote speaker is Tommy Clack, who since 1970 has traveled as a public speaker giving more than 50 speeches every year at schools, colleges, businesses, and other organizations. Clack lost three limbs and suffered massive internal injuries and hearing loss while in combat during the Vietnam War in 1969. He went on to work more than 47 years as a military and government employee, including as staff assistant to the director of the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Office and as a field manager/veterans service officer for the Georgia Department of Veterans' Service. He has received numerous awards, including being named a Point of Light in 1991 by President H.W. Bush.

In addition to Clack's keynote address, this year's ceremony will include dedication of several new American flags to the City's Avenue of Flags display, which this year marks its 30th anniversary. Each flag represents the life of at least one deceased veteran. There will also be patriotic music, presentation of colors and rifle salute from the Forsyth County Fire & Sheriff's Honor Guard, a dove release, and more.

The ceremony is free and open to everyone. If you do not wish to sit on the amphitheater seat wall, please bring your own lawn chair.
