Be Cautious of COVID-19 Related Phone Scams in Elmhurst
The Elmhurst Police Department was notified of a suspicious phone call received by a resident, where the caller asked to speak with the actual owner of the house by name.  The Caller ID on the phone displayed City of Elmhurst, with a valid City of Elmhurst phone extension.  The resident identified the caller as a male with a heavy foreign accent, who started to explain there was federal funding available for the COVID-19 crisis before disconnecting the call.  As we have previously relayed, scammers and criminals are unfortunately using this crisis to take advantage for their own personal gain.  The City of Elmhurst or any other governmental agency will not call you during this crisis and ask for any personal identifying information.  If you have any questions or concerns about a call, please contact the Elmhurst Police Department non-emergency number at 630-530-3050 for further assistance.

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act)
President Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act the afternoon of March 27, 2020. The CARES Act’s estimated $2+ trillion funding includes: extraordinary public health spending to confront the COVID-19 pandemic; immediate cash relief for individual citizens; a broad lending program for small business; and, targeted relief for hard-hit industries. When implemented, there will be many new resources available for small businesses, as well as certain non-profits and other employers.
To help small business owners and entrepreneurs better understand the new programs that will soon be available to them, a comprehensive guide was created addressing many of the small business provisions in the  CARES Act.  These programs and initiatives are intended to assist business owners with whatever needs they have right now. This guide provides information about the major programs and initiatives that will soon be available from the Small Business Administration (SBA) to address these needs, as well as some additional tax provisions that are outside the scope of SBA.
