The City of Elmhurst, Elmhurst District 205, Elmhurst Park District, Elmhurst Public Library, and Elmhurst University have joined in organizing an event on Wednesday, April 6th to support the people of Ukraine. Various local organizations will be participating and all are welcome to attend. Together, Elmhurst community members will stand in solidarity with the heroic people of Ukraine as they fight to maintain their democracy, while showing support to those who are concerned for their loved ones abroad, the millions who have been displaced, and for those grieving lives lost.

A moment of togetherness. A candlelight vigil will take place on Wednesday, April 6th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Wilder Park. The community will be invited to join in a moment of togetherness which will include words spoken by our community leaders, the Consul General of Ukraine, personal stories from members of the Ukrainian community, a moment of silence, and a reading of the State Anthem of Ukraine. The event will be recorded and posted to the City's YouTube page, ElmhurstTV. Attendees should follow signs for public parking options which include the Wilder Mansion Parking Lot, Adelaide Parking Deck, and Elmhurst University's Alexander Parking Lot.

A day of giving.  Also on Wednesday, April 6th, civic partners will encourage community members who are interested in supporting Ukraine to consider making a financial contribution to established organizations that are working to support refugees of this crisis. A list of various ways to make these financial contributions will be posted on Elmhurst.org/Ukraine. Before making a contribution to a charity, research how the organization uses its donations, and ensure that your donation is designated to support the crisis in Ukraine.

Please check Elmhurst.org/Ukraine for updates on this community partnered event.
The City's Commission on Youth Promotes
April Random Acts of Kindness Month

The City’s Commission on Youth has created a month’s worth of kindness for you and your kids to do this April. Some of the acts of kindness are super simple and some are more involved, but all are intended to make kindness a habit in your community, classroom and home.

Before you start, print out this flyer and talk as a family about what you plan to do for each item. Talk about what being kind means and why it’s important. Planning the month should be fun. No one says you have to go in order. You can hang up the list and simply mark them off as you complete each act of kindness.

Kindness itself is very motivating and the true reward is the feeling you get from completing a kind act, but as an added incentive, the City’s Commission on Youth will award thirty $10 Elmhurst City Center gift cards randomly among all entries received.
No later than Monday, May 9th, please email your completed list to Commissioner Anne Zimmer at a.zimmer@lwreedy.com. We encourage you to submit pictures from your family's month of kindness too! For more information and resources, visit elmhurst.org/kindnessmonth.
