Monthly Updates from Mayor Carlo DeMaria &

Across Our Community

December | 2025

Hello Everett,

As we welcome the holiday season, I’m reminded why this is my favorite time of year. It is a season filled with community, generosity, and moments that bring us together, and I’m grateful to share it with all of you.

I hope you will join us for one of our most cherished traditions, the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. It is always a special evening for families, friends, and neighbors, and I look forward to celebrating the start of the season with you.

This month, our community is still recovering after SNAP benefits were suddenly frozen in November. Thanks to the hard work of dedicated city employees, volunteers, and community partners who acted quickly, we made sure every family had food on the table. From weekly meal programs to coordinated food distributions, our collective effort helped keep families nourished and supported during a challenging time. This is what Everett does best: showing up for one another.

As we continue embracing the spirit of giving, I encourage everyone who is able to donate to our annual Toy Drive and Veterans Drive. Your generosity helps brighten the season for children and our Veterans right here in our community. Every toy or donation truly makes a difference.

To help support the local businesses, I’m pleased to share that the City of Everett will once again offer two hours of free metered parking throughout December. I hope you’ll take advantage by shopping locally, enjoying our restaurants, and supporting our small businesses.

From my family to yours, I wish you a joyful, healthy, and peaceful holiday season. Thank you for making Everett such a strong and caring community.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Everett Cares

When SNAP Benefits Stopped, Everett made sure support didn't

Thanks to the support of so many community partners, the City of Everett was able to quickly spring into action when SNAP benefits shut down, ensuring no one went hungry. Residents received help through a number of coordinated initiatives that provided meals, groceries and essential resources.

Grocery Box Distribution

In collaboration with Morrissey Market and Katsiroubas Bros., the City of Everett distributed grocery boxes throughout November to income-eligible residents and families enrolled in the Holiday Assistance Program.

Weekly Hot Meals

The City of Everett offered twice-weekly hot meals at the Connolly Center, providing balanced meals every Monday and Friday through partnerships with local organizations. Delivery options were also available for residents who were unable to travel.

Holiday Assistance Program

Registration opened for Everett’s annual Holiday Assistance Program, offering curated Thanksgiving turkeys and food boxes. The program ensured households had access to essential holiday support to ensure as many people as possible were able to celebrate.

Honoring Service

Everett salutes and thanks all who served on Veterans Day

The City of Everett proudly gathered veterans, local officials and community members at the Connolly Center on Nov. 11 to honor those who have served in the United States military.

The event featured heartfelt remarks from keynote speaker Joseph Hickey, along with contributions from Mayor Carlo DeMaria and other elected officials. The Everett High School Band performed patriotic selections, including TAPS during the traditional moment of silence at 11 a.m.

Mayor DeMaria expressed his gratitude to all who served and to everyone who helped make this year’s ceremony a meaningful tribute to our veterans.

Fueling Good Work: Everett Citizens Foundation Awards $170K to Local Organizations

The Everett Citizens Foundation (ECF) recently awarded $170,000 in grants to 17 organizations, each receiving $10,000 to help fund their work in our community.

Through the City of Everett’s Host Community Agreement with Encore Boston Harbor, approved by voters in 2013, the Everett Citizens Foundation was established. The ECF is made up of members appointed by Mayor Carlo DeMaria, the Everett City Council, State Senator Sal DiDomenico and State Representative Joe McGonagle. Its mission is to support and promote local groups, associations and programs that provide a direct benefit to Everett residents.

To date, the ECF has awarded over $2 million in grants to local organizations that make a meaningful difference every day.

Housing Help, All Under One Roof

Residents get one-on-one guidance on assistance, savings and housing opportunities

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Housing Support and Resource Fair! Residents connected with local partners to learn about rental assistance, utility savings, affordable housing opportunities, fuel assistance and more.

National Grid, The Neighborhood Developers (TND) and Electrify Everett were on hand to offer one-on-one guidance and answer questions. It was a great evening of community connection and helpful resources for Everett families.

Kicking Around Ideas

Community chats with the New England Revolution brought stadium talk to local eateries for relaxed one-on-one conversations with residents

Throughout October and November, the City of Everett teamed up with the New England Revolution to host three community meetings about the proposed soccer stadium. This time, in a more casual setting.

Residents joined representatives from the city and the New England Revolution at 8/10 Bar & Grille, The Village Bar & Grill, and Stewart’s Pub for meaningful, one-on-one conversations, where questions were asked and answers were shared.

A big thank-you to the local hosts for opening their doors and helping make these discussions productive and accessible to all.

A Feast of Gratitude

Everett comes together for Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Hundreds of residents filled the Connolly Center on Nov. 24 for the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, a warm and welcoming celebration of gratitude, connection, and community spirit.

Building on the tradition started by MassBadge and Zion Church Ministries, the City partnered with the Fire and Police Departments, their unions, community organizations and dedicated volunteers to serve a complimentary Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.

Attendees enjoyed dinner, dessert and heartfelt conversation alongside first responders, city officials and neighbors making this annual tradition a meaningful kickoff to the holiday season.

Winter 2026 Important Info

As snow season arrives, the City of Everett is prepared with full snow-removal operations and updated parking guidelines. During any snow parking ban, vehicles must park on the EVEN side of the street for the 2026 season (December 2025–March/April 2026). Streets with one-sided parking should continue to follow their usual rules, and parking on main arteries is always prohibited during a ban.

Residents will be notified of parking bans through robo-calls, ECTV, social media, the city website (cityofeverett.com), blue emergency lights and by calling 3-1-1. Please do not to shovel snow back onto the street or try to save parking spaces. Please help keep fire hydrants clear.

Do You Use a Heat Pump to Heat Your Home?

You could save BIG this winter!

  • R-1 customers: Save an estimated $70–$141 per month
  • R-2 (income-eligible) customers: Save $20–$96 per month

If your heat pump was installed through Mass Save in 2019 or later, you may already be enrolled. Just look for the “Heat Pump Rate” label on your next bill.
