Message From Mayor Carlo DeMaria
Hello Everett,
As we close out the month of June, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the diversity, unity, and resilience that define our great city. This month brought several important opportunities for celebration and reflection of what makes Everett such a strong community.
We proudly recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and recognizes the ongoing efforts to ensure freedom and equality for all. June is also Pride Month, which is a time to celebrate love and inclusion, while also continuing to work together as a community to ensure that Everett remains a welcoming and supportive city for people of all identities. Additionally, we recognize Immigrant Heritage Month, which honors the many individuals and families who have come to Everett and other communities throughout the country from around the globe. Lastly, we also recognize and appreciate the vital role fathers and father figures play in our lives as we celebrated Father's Day.
We hosted an exciting Juneteenth Celebration event this month, which brought our community together to enjoy food, live music, and fun activities for all. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this event and for making it a tremendous success.
I'd also like to congratulate the Everett High School Class of 2025. Your hard work and determination have brought you to this exciting milestone. We are proud of all that you've accomplished and look forward to seeing the bright futures you will build.
Looking ahead, I invite all residents to join us for our annual Independence Day Celebration (more details below in the upcoming events section) on Sunday, June 29. This cherished event brings our entire community together to honor the founding of our nation with music, food, fun, and of course, the fireworks show.
As always, don't hesitate to reach out to my office if you have any questions or concerns. My team and I are ready to assist you as best as we can. Thank you for continuing to make Everett a community of inclusion, celebration, and progress. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming community events.
Thanks for reading!

The City of Everett was proud to join with so many as the community welcomed United States Army Air Forces Staff Sgt. Loring E. Lord home.
Staff Sgt. Lord was killed during World War II and was reported Missing in Action (MIA) for almost 80 years. However, thanks to the efforts of his family members, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), and assistance from residents of Dülmen, Germany, his remains are now returned to his home state alongside his parents and sister at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family of Staff Sgt. Lord chose to use this ceremony as an opportunity to remind everyone that over 82,000 service members remain MIA, and they would like to see as many families receive closure like they finally have.
Mayor Carlo DeMaria would like to thank the family for inviting him to speak at the interment ceremony. The Mayor would also like to thank all of the City departments and staff, including Everett police and fire departments, as well as police and fire departments from surrounding communities, that participated to honor Staff Sgt. The City of Everett held its Lunch and Learn for the month of May at Everett City Hall. This month’s program, titled “Being Mindful of Mental Health Diversity in the Workplace,” focused on ways to build and maintain a positive workplace culture that considers the needs and concerns related to mental health.
City staff were pleased to be joined by Natalie Petit, who is the executive leadership coach for the Refined to Thrive Consulting agency. During the program, she engaged with City staff by discussing some of the primary workplace mental health concerns, such as anxiety, burnout, depression, loneliness and disengagement, and stress. Petit also shared national data about mental health and wellness in the workplace.
Following sharing this information, Petit discussed some strategies on how to deal with balancing the pressures and responsibilities of a workplace, while setting personal time aside for activities that can improve mental health. The discussion also included creating opportunities in the workplace for staff to feel heard and demonstrate that they are making an impact within the organization. Another strategy included practicing emotional intelligence and finding out how employees prefer interacting with managers to ensure employees are performing at their full potential.
At the conclusion of the Lunch and Learn, Petit shared some books and resources that would be helpful for staff to learn more about how to improve and maintain mental health in the workplace and in their personal lives.
Lunch and Learn is a monthly program created and moderated by the City of Everett’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department. The program is an opportunity for City staff to come together, share ideas and experiences, and discuss new topics while enjoying lunch. The series is a part of the City’s commitment to engage, educate, and elevate.
