Message From Mayor Carlo DeMaria
Hello Everett,
As we welcomed the month of May, I'm reminded of the strong sense of pride and community that defines our great city. With warmer weather and longer days, this is a time when Everett truly comes alive with local events that bring us together.
This month, we celebrate several important events and initiatives. From honoring our teachers and nurses during National Teacher and Nurse Appreciation Weeks to observing Memorial Day and paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, May is a time for both gratitude and reflection.
We had some exciting events this month, such as the annual Spring Cleanup, which included many different organizations within the community coming together to beautify our city. We also celebrated Haitian Heritage Month and our Haitian American community with an exciting event at the Recreation Center. These gatherings are wonderful opportunities to connect with neighbors, support local initiatives, and enjoy the beauty of our city together. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the events we hosted in May and for making them a tremendous success.
As always, don't hesitate to reach out to my office if you have any questions or concerns. My team and I are ready to assist you as best as we can. Also, please share this newsletter with friends, family, and neighbors. We hope this will be a great way for residents to stay engaged with what is happening in our community and informed about the programs, initiatives, and events we have to offer.
Thanks for reading!

As part of National Police Week, the Everett Police Department (EPD) hosted a memorial service in front of Everett Police station to honor all those who have served the City of Everett as members of the EPD.
Chief Paul Strong was pleased to be joined by Bishop Robert Brown, Mayor Carlo DeMaria, Senator Sal DiDomenico, and State Rep. Joe McGonagle, alongside the Everett High School (EHS) Choir, other elected officials, members of the EPD, and residents to pay tribute to Everett police officers who are no longer with us. Following their remarks, wreaths were placed at the memorial located outside of the Everett police station and the names of the officers who were killed in the line of duty and the officers who served and passed away in the past year were read in recognition of their service.
“Police officers put their lives on the line every day they come to work to protect and serve everyone in our community,” said Mayor DeMaria. “Unfortunately, some are not able to make it back home to their loved ones at the end of the day. Currently, only three Everett officers have ever been killed in the line of duty, and I pray that never changes. Their service and sacrifice will always be remembered.”
National Police Week is nationally recognized to honor and remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Each year, the Department hosts this memorial ceremony to recognize and reflect upon all the officers who have served the City of Everett and are no longer with us.

On Wednesday, April 30, the City of Everett hosted a community meeting at the Edward G. Connolly Center to gather feedback from residents regarding what they would like to see in the community benefits agreement from the potential stadium project.
This meeting was a chance for attendees to hear from guest speakers Senator Sal DiDomenico, Robert Kraft and Jonathan Kraft from the Kraft Group, and representatives from the New England Revolution soccer team to learn about the legislative process that was involved, potential benefits to the community, and preliminary design plans. Following the presentation, Mayor DeMaria asked those in attendance to share their feedback on what they’d like to see in the community benefits agreement from the potential stadium project.
“This project is a tremendous opportunity to move on from our industrial past,” said Mayor DeMaria. “Not only will this potential project invest in cleaning up a blighted and contaminated parcel of land, it will also restore access to our waterfront in that area. The community benefits agreement that would need to be negotiated if this project moves forward will open up many more opportunities for our city, and that's why it was so important to hear from our residents on what benefits they'd like to see if this happens.”
The Mayor would like to thank everyone who attended the community meeting to share their ideas on what benefits they would like to see for Everett. Additionally, Mayor DeMaria would like to thank Robert and Jonathan Kraft, the Kraft Group, representatives of the New England Revolution, and Senator Sal DiDomenico for taking the time to participate in the meeting and to speak to those who attended.
The City of Everett plans to host more community meetings in the future, so please stay tuned for more information. Those who couldn’t attend the meeting and would like to share their ideas on what to include in the community benefits agreement are asked to email Mayor DeMaria at Mayor@ci.everett.ma.us.

Each year, the Everett Firefighters Union raises funds through an annual softball tournament featuring local police and fire departments. All of the money that was raised through their fundraising efforts was donated to the Everett Fire Victims Fund.
“I am very grateful for the support and donation from the members of the Everett Firefighters Union,” said Mayor DeMaria. “As firefighters, they understand how devastating a home fire can be, and this generous donation will go a long way in helping us provide assistance to many families in Everett.”

Congratulations, Asmira. We are all very proud and happy for you.”
