Due to continued severe winter weather in the forecast for north Texas, and due to frequent and prolonged rolling power outages, the City of Farmers Branch will open a warming station at the Community Recreation Center from 7:30 p.m, Monday February 15 until 5 p.m. Tuesday February 16.

Citizens will be allowed to stay for several hours or spend the night in the gymnasium, but should bring appropriate bedding as required, as well as face masks to comply with current COVID-19 safety protocols. The facility will be kept warm and secure with available restrooms and City staff members during this time. However, the city will not be able to provide transportation to or from the facility nor will food will be provided.

In addition, Farmers Branch city facilities will be closed a second consecutive day on Tuesday, February 16. The closures will include City Hall, the Municipal Court and Manske Library. Public safety personnel, to include Fire and Police Departments, will still operate on a slightly modified schedule. 

The Farmers Branch City Council meeting scheduled Tuesday night, February 16 has been canceled and all agenda items will be placed on a future council agenda. 

Lastly, both commercial and residential solid waste collection for Tuesday February 16 has been canceled by Community Waste Disposal.

According to the National Weather Service, dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills are occurring and will continue through tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Another winter storm will arrive Tuesday afternoon and bring another round of ice and snow to the region. Oncor has warned of extended outages for many in the region.
