REPORT STORM-RELATED

INCIDENTS

Call 916-461-6722 to report non-emergency storm-related hazards to the city, including localized flooding, fallen trees or limbs, and plugged storm drains.
Call 916-461-6726 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to report downed street signs and traffic signals or streetlights that are out.
After hours, contact the City of Folsom Police Department dispatch line at 916-355-7231.
Call 911 in the event of a storm-related emergency, such as a downed power line, downed trees on live wires, or a life-threatening emergency.

Report Storm-Related Hazards with SeeClickFix Folsom

Clogged storm drain or localized flooding in your neighborhood? Fallen tree limb or stop sign on your street? Non-emergency storm-related incidents can be submitted to the City of Folsom with reporting app SeeClickFix Folsom. This free place-based online and mobile platform allows you to report, document, and monitor a variety of neighborhood concerns and improvements. SANDBAGS AVAILABLE FOR FOLSOM RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES

If your property has a history of flooding, it's important to get prepared in advance of a storm. Sand and sandbags are available for Folsom residents and business owners at no charge. The city's two self-serve sandbag stations are located next to Fire Station 36 at 9700 Oak Avenue Parkway and behind City Hall at 50 Natoma Street. The city offers free sandbag materials, including bags, sand, and shovels. You may also wish to bring safety goggles and gloves. PREPARE YOUR HOME

Consider obtaining flood insurance or checking your existing policy to make sure you have enough coverage.
Make an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, water, nonperishable food, and other essentials in case of a power outage.
Have an emergency plan in place. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website www.ready.gov has valuable information on how you can prepare your family for an emergency.

DURING THE STORM

Monitor local weather forecasts.
Use sandbags to divert water from entrances to your home.
Report power outages to your utility provider.
If advised by local authorities to evacuate, move immediately to a safe area.
Check on your neighbors, especially elderly or disabled persons, or families with infants.

HELP KEEP GUTTERS AND STORM DRAINS FREE OF FALLEN LEAVES

The City of Folsom Public Works Department has been busy clearing gutters and storm drain inlets of fallen leaves. When leaves accumulate on the street, it is challenging for street sweepers to pick up the leaves, which can clog storm drain inlets resulting in localized flooding.

Here's how residents can help:

Avoid sweeping or blowing leaves into ditches or streets.
Clear leaves from gutters and storm drains and place them in your green waste container, if possible.
Keep sidewalks clear of leaves and other debris.
Trim trees and remove broken branches.

If there is a storm drain inlet that is difficult to clear, or you would like to report a storm drain issue, call the Public Works Street Department at 916-461-6722.

DRIVE WITH CAUTION DURING WET WEATHER

Wet pavement reduces traction, increases braking distance, and can lead to hydroplaning. Use caution during wet weather by driving more slowly, maintaining a safe distance from vehicles ahead of you, and keeping your headlights on. Make sure your lights and wipers are in good working order and check the tread on your tires.

In the event of power outages, dark or flashing traffic signals should be treated as a stop sign; come to a complete stop, yield to other traffic, and proceed when it’s your turn and safe to do so.
