Balloon Sunrise on Fossil Trace This past weekend saw a huge number of visitors for the USA Pro Challenge bike race and we were proud to show off our beautiful town! Golden represented with style and grace, and a big thanks goes out to all the volunteers and citizens who pitched in to make it such a successful event.

With the bike race behind us, and the Splash closed for the season, it may seem like summer is behind us, but there's still some fun to be had! The final Movies & Music in the Park of the season is this Friday. Last year we were all really disappointed that the screening of Frozen had to be canceled due to weather, so we brought it back this year - and it's a sing-a-long! And make sure you get up early the next morning - the Golden Farmer's Market is not to be missed either.

Have a great week!

Project Updates
Heritage Road Update

The Eagle Ridge roundabout was opened a day ahead of schedule.

The contractor is now working on the concrete apron in the center and sidewalk this week.

Closure of the  intersection at W. 4th Ave is scheduled for August 31, at which time Heritage Rd will be closed from the north side of the Kimball roundabout to the south side of the Eagle Ridge roundabout.

Message boards will be placed early this week to advise of the upcoming closure.
2015 Concrete Replacement project

This week, the contractor is working on Washington Avenue from Highway 93 to Iowa.
2015 Street Improvements project

Milling is to begin the week of August 31 on S. Golden Rd, which will cause significant delays. Merchants have been notified through the Chamber, and message boards are in place as of Monday. Golden High School and Bell Middle School have also been notified.

After S. Golden Rd work is complete, the contractor will move to N. Ford Street.
2015 Utility Replacement project
  • Jones Rd sewer replacement completed.
  • Water main replacement on Wyoming and Virginia from North Ford to North Jackson will begin this week.
  • Sanitary sewer rehabilitation has begun in the Golden Heights neighborhood (West 4th and Orchard area).
  • Miscellaneous sewer repairs are taking place on Iowa Street, Iowa Court, and Mt. Zion Dr.
Lions Park single court open

Last week, Lions Park dual tennis court work was completed and they were opened for play. This week repairs to the Lions single court are complete! Next up, the  contractor is moving to Southridge for the resurfacing of that court.

The tennis courts have been been closed much of the summer, due to a rainy season that caused delays and impacted contractor availability.
West Fork Kenney Run Drainage Improvements

The Army Corps permit for the channel between 23rd and 24th Street as well as the 23rd Street culvert was received so work can move forward. Tree removal is slated to begin soon.

The contractor began pouring the base of the 24th Street culvert today, August 25. The current schedule calls for re-opening 24th Street by September 28, providing there are no unexpected delays.
Wyoming Circle Park Construction

Wyoming Circle Wyoming Circle Park construction began Tuesday, August 4. The new park space will include the same number of parking spaces but be reconfigured to provide more park and a new shelter. It will continue to be a secondary access to North Table Mountain Trailhead.

Right now, work is ongoing. All concrete is poured. Remaining work consists of final retaining walls, shelter installation, irrigation installation and planting.

Safety tips for dealing with rattlesnakes

If you've seen a rattlesnake around town, you're not alone. According to Jamie Segal, Code Enforcement Officer with the Golden Police Department, the number of snakes seems to cycle up and down each year, and this year has seen an uptick.

The rattlesnakes we have here in Golden are prairie rattlers. They are a fairly non-aggressive species, tending to be much more defensive. If you see one, Officer Segal advises the best thing you can do is leave them alone.
