Giving your old tree a new life

Now that the last bit of tinsel has been pulled from those Christmas trees, they may be looking a little sad. Instead of abandoning your tree to the landfill, give it a new life in someone's garden this spring as mulch!

Drop off your trees now through January 27 at the former Golden Recycle site, just west of Hwy 93 on the north side of Golden Gate Canyon Road.

Trees must be stripped of all ornaments, hardware, lights and tinsel as those items, while pretty, definitely don't make very good mulch.  Trees will be mulched, and the mulch will eventually be available for free at the public pick-up site on 11th Street, just west of Clear Creek History Park.

Enjoy this short but interesting video for a glimpse at what happens to Christmas trees after the last decoration has come off.

Then keep reading for more on what's happening in Golden.

Have a great week!
