Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day
This Thursday we celebrate the heritage and culture of the Irish. Here's a little piece of trivia - Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival!

Meanwhile, there's plenty happening this week that doesn't require you to wear green, including several city meetings, and Coffee with a Councilor - North Neighborhoods this Sunday. Please keep reading to see what's going on in the City.

Whether or not you choose to don the green and your best Irish brogue this Thursday, we hope you have a happy, safe and lucky week!

Linking Lookout (US 6 & 19th St. Interchange)

Here's what's happening on the Linking Lookout project this week:
  • Utility line relocation - Power lines over US 6 will be dropped over night on March 19.
  • Retaining wall construction to provide space for the US 6 eastbound off ramp to 19th Street continues in the northwest quadrant.
  • Walls for the concrete tunnel that allows the US 6 trail to go under the US 6 westbound off ramp to 19th Street will be poured.
  • There will continue to be some lane closures on eastbound US 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for truck loading. These closures have not caused any delays.
  • Clearing of trees in the NE quadrant and hillside benching for the 54" storm-sewer will begin.
  • Sanitary sewer service line from CSM waste treatment experimental station relocated.
Retaining wall construction to provide space for the US 6 eastbound off ramp to 19th Street is ongoing in the northwest quadrant, which will mean right lane closures on EB US 6 every day this week.

West Fork Kenney Run Drainage Improvement Project

This week crews are working on fencing and landscaping. A walk-through with urban drainage last week produced a minor punch list.
Water Meter Replacement

In late March, the City of Golden will begin replacing water meters that have been in service more than 10 years, starting with the Rimrock neighborhood. Notices will go out in water bills so be on the lookout, but here's what you should know.

To complete this project, the contractor, Keystone Utility Systems (KUS) must have access to your water meter to replace the existing meter and rewire and install a new remote register in the meter pit or on the house. If your water meter is inside the house you will receive a separate notice requesting that you schedule an appointment to replace your meter. If your meter is outside in a meter pit, an appointment won't be necessary. This is a system-wide meter replacement project and all City of Golden water customers with older meters will have their water meter replaced. There is no expense to the customer. The entire cost of installation is covered by the City of Golden Water Department.
Hot Tub Makeover

If you enjoy a nice leisurely soak in the hot tub at the Golden Community Center, mark it on your calendar - the hot tub will be closed for a couple of weeks beginning the week of March 21. When you come back in April, t he hot tub will be better than ever with new jets and new tile! (**Please note, there are no plans at this time to convert the GCC Hot Tub into a time machine, but we still think you'll like the updates!)
US 6 Clear Creek Canyon Closure

As part of construction on the Peaks to Plains Trail project, Jefferson County will be closing US 6 overnight through Clear Creek Canyon for the installation of two large, steel bridges over Clear Creek tonight, March 15 from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m., and again on Wednesday, March 16 from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m. Access to the Black Hawk casinos will be maintained via a detour route using I-70 and SH 119 to US 6.
