Mayor's Award Deadline Extended!

Canned Food Drive
The deadline for submitting your nominations for the Mayor's Awards of Excellence has been extended to October 1! So think hard about who among your friends and neighbors deserves recognition for doing great things for Golden, and send us your nominations (scroll to the end of this digest for more information). What's more, with this year's Community Celebration scheduled for October 30, the day before Halloween, the Mayor is inviting the community to bring their "Trick or Treat So Golden Can Eat" donations to the celebration. Each year on Halloween, Colorado School of Mines students collect cans and non-perishable goods from Golden homes to donate to Mines families in need of help during the holiday season and to the Christian Action Guild. This is your opportunity to plan ahead and get your donations in one day early!

Keep reading for more information on both the Mayor's Awards for Excellence and the Community Celebration, as well as everything else happening in Golden as we greet these cooler fall days and wait for the leaves to put on their yearly show!

Join the Golden Police Department for Coffee with a Cop from 7 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Café 13, 1301 Arapahoe St. The owners of Café 13 have graciously agreed to host the event and provide free coffee and pastries to anyone who comes. Around Town
Digital Fingerprints
Fingerprinting is going digital, in hopes of making the process easier for you and more efficient for law enforcement agencies. This process is not just for criminals; often, your prints are needed for personal background checks, employment, and various licensing requirements such as Medical Marijuana, Retail Marijuana, and Liquor Licensure.

As a result, the Golden Police Department no longer provides fingerprinting services. Instead, you will need to make an appointment with the nearest IdentoGO location to you. Fingerprints will be completed electronically using Live Scan technology and transmitted directly to CBI, which stores all fingerprinting records for the state. Processing time and fingerprint rejections will decrease tremendously and will reduce the burden on law enforcement agencies. Mayor's Awards for Excellence, Deadline Extended!

Mayor's Awards for Excellence
The tradition continues for the 8th year in a row, as Golden's Mayor Marjorie Sloan honors outstanding individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to Golden with the Mayor's Awards for Excellence, and the deadline for nominations has been extended to October 1! The winners will be awarded at the Mayor's Community Celebration Tuesday, October 30, 6:30 p.m. at the Mines Campus Student Center at 1620 Maple St. Golden.

This year at the Mayor's Community Celebration, prepare to be inspired by a man who lived through the worst, and now works to encourage others to make an impact on the people and places around them. At the age of nine, John O'Leary suffered severe burns on 100 percent of his body. No one expected him to survive the first night, but he did. John endured months in a hospital bed, dozens of surgeries, the amputation of all of his fingers, and years of physical therapy. But for him it wasn't the end, it was just the beginning of his journey. Some call John a survivor but he is much more than that. John O'Leary is a beacon of hope, and he has an important message to share with Golden. You won't want to miss hearing this profound speaker, who can teach us all that together, we can forge an extraordinary future by finding the possibility in the present. John's national bestselling book On Fire details his story and is the basis for his lectures.

And there's still time to make your award nominations!

Nominations are accepted for two different awards. The  Individual or Business/Organization award  highlights exceptional contributions to the Golden community at large. The  Gold Mine award  highlights contributions made to the betterment of the Colorado School of Mines within the Golden Community.

Visit our Mayor's Awards for Excellence page for more information on the awards and the Mayor's Community Celebration, and for how to submit your nomination.
