Project Updates
Linking Lookout (6 & 19 Interchange project)

Linking Lookout Logo Kraemer has begun to mobilize, and project trailers have been set just below the city's water tank at Beverly Heights. Crews have completed some retaining wall testing along US 6 and all contract documents have been signed. The start of the project is just around the corner!

The variable message boards will be placed this week providing notification of the Thursday, January 28 Public Pre-Construction meeting. This meeting will not be an open house format but will consist of the same presentation given at two separate times to accommodate different schedules.

The meeting is scheduled from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Fossil Trace. The first presentation with the contractor will take place at 6 p.m., followed by questions. The presentation will be repeated at around 7:30 p.m. and will again be followed by the opportunity to ask questions.
West Fork Kenney Run Drainage Improvements

Crews are continuing construction of boulder walls between 23rd and 24th Streets, and pouring the drop structure upstream of 24th this week.
2016 Street Improvement Program

It's that time again! The street list and material quantities for the 2016 Street Improvement Program were sent to Martin Marietta last week. We expect to have pricing and a recommendation for Council's consideration at the February 11 meeting (Council meets at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers at 911 10th St.).
North Ford & Iowa St. Sewer Main Work

Cured in Place (CIP) sewer main rehabilitation in the North Ford and Iowa St. areas is currently scheduled for this week and the week of February 1st. Affected residents will be notified by the contractor as needed .
Grampsas Park Work

Two old buildings are coming down at Grampsas Park this week, and will be replaced by one larger building.

In addition, the boards behind the backstop in the park are being replaced to protect the fence.
The Icy Streets and Sidewalks of Golden

With the cold nights and warmer days we've had recently on the heels of a couple of good snow storms, navigating City streets and sidewalks without running into icy patches right now is nearly impossible. Daily we hear from folks struggling with the ice in front of their homes or the businesses they frequent.

We can assure you that the Golden Street Department is out daily cutting ice, but with limited resources they must prioritize areas based on severity. To complicate matters, in many locations the ice reforms even after cutting with the freeze/thaw cycle we've been having. We only have one motor grader that can cut ice so we appreciate your patience as we try to get everywhere that needs it. In the meantime, please use caution if you're out walking or driving.

Your passport to the world starts in Golden

If you're looking forward to traveling abroad in 2016, you'll need to make sure your passport is in order. The City of Golden can help! Did you know Golden accepted  922 passport applications in 2015? That averages out to almost 18 passports per week! And this year is starting off even busier; over the first 8 days of the year alone we accepted 55 applications.

Because we get so many requests, appointments are strongly encouraged. Walk-ins will be accommodated as scheduling allows, but unfortunately, walk-in service is not guaranteed. If we're super busy when you stop by, you may be in for a wait. The simple solution is to call (303) 384-8000 to make your appointment ahead of time, and save more time for packing and travel-planning.

Learn more about the passport application process on our website, and have fun planning your next trip abroad!
Golden Well-Being Index Study

The City of Golden participated in the Gallup-Healthways Well-being Survey in May and June of 2015 and had over 500 responses. Well-being was defined as a life well lived, all the things that are important to us, what we think about and how we experience our lives. Well-being is comprised of five elements including: Purpose, liking what you do each day and being motivated to accomplish your goals; Social, having supportive relationships and love in your life; Financial, managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security; Community, liking where you live, feeling safe, and having pride in your community; Physical, having good health and enough energy to get things done daily.

Join us for a presentation of the findings from Golden's Well-Being Index Study on Saturday, January 30, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 911 10 th Street. The presentation will feature reports from Gallup Healthways, the Colorado School of Public Health and the Tobacco Free Jeffco Alliance. Share your thoughts with other community members and ideas for future healthy initiatives.
