Dear Kettering Residents:
As May approaches, we begin cleaning up our yards in preparation for warmer weather. We typically plan to attend the annual Kettering Community Block Party to kick off a fun season. It’s the donning of summertime, festivals, camps, Fraze events and waterpark fun! This year, we are greeting summer much differently. Although I am disappointed that the fate of our cherished warm weather traditions our great community has to offer are uncertain this year, it warms my heart to see the unique ways our residents continue to come together to make the most of a trying situation.
Since March, our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department has been introducing creative ways for kids of all ages to get outside and engage in activities while keeping appropriate distances. I’ve seen families on scavenger hunts and bike rides, runners, joggers, walkers and people sitting on benches watching Kettering come alive.
Without the social gatherings and human interaction to which we are accustomed, we’ve quickly adapted to new ways of connecting, working and making memories. We were forced to think outside of ourselves and create new norms and comfort zones. Our technical repertoire had no choice but to expand and we connected on newer, stronger, more powerful levels.
Kettering residents were concerned when things changed in the middle of March. City staff worked tirelessly to offer services to help ease our community through this. For the safety of our citizens, some functions were canceled, suspended and retrofitted to stay within health guidelines. And, they could not have accomplished so much, so seamlessly, without your support. Thank you.
We appreciate your continued patience, ideas and kindness as we charge through the fog together. Every day, the sun still shines, people still wave and the human spirit is in full bloom. Now more than ever, Kettering is home. Our families, friends and neighbors continue to be a part of our strong foundation; and, the new friends we’ve helped or leaned on during the pandemic are welcomed blessings for which we are grateful.
Take care.

REFUSE & RECYCLING UPDATES
|
|
To protect their employees, Waste Management is taking precautionary steps and making service adjustments.
Waste Management is temporarily suspending bulk collection, e.g., furniture, mattresses, appliances and toilets until further notice.
Additionally, they are delaying the start of their yard waste collection season. They are taking these steps to free up personnel and equipment to keep up with the increasing amount of residential solid waste that is being generated at this time.
Their first priority is to make sure they have capacity available to perform the essential services of municipal solid waste and recycling collection and disposal.
Waste Management will continue monitoring the nation and state’s response to this public health emergency. When the situation normalizes, they will return to regular service offerings.
The transition from Waste Management to Rumpke Waste & Recycling will begin July 1, 2020. Rumpke will invoice residents during the second week of July to cover July, August and September trash and recycling.
Trash and recycle receptacles will be switched from Waste Management to Rumpke on regularly-scheduled trash pickup days beginning June 24. This will be handled by the refuse and recycling companies.
We will keep you informed through the transition.
