A Message From Mayor Steve Noble:
Dear Friends,
 
As I expected, the response to my proposal to institute paid parking in our municipal lots and to increase fees for on-street parking has been mixed. I have heard from some individuals and businesses that they much prefer user-based fees rather than increased taxes. Others have responded that this will place a burden on our residents and employees working in our business districts. I wanted to take a moment to provide some clarity on this issue. Click here to view a simple one page outline explaining why we are updating our parking system, how we plan to do it, and when these changes will occur.

As you will see, this is an ongoing process and there is much work to be done over the next few months to make sure we do this right. During my first year in office, I believe I have consistently demonstrated my willingness to address issues in a way that respects the concerns of all parties. I encourage all those who live and work in Kingston to join me in this planning process so that as we update our parking management policies and fees, we build a system that works best for our community.

Community celebrates opening of Everette Hodge Community Center's renovated Carriage House 




Mayor Steve Noble, along with Alderman Deb Brown, Alderman Maryann Mills, members of the Bruderhof, and local children, joined together for the official opening of the Hodge Center's newly renovated Carriage House. The building, which had sat vacant for over a decade, was renovated by volunteers from the Bruderhof Community, with supplies purchased utilizing Community Development Block Grant funding. In addition to the refurbished multi-use facility, a new fence has been installed along the perimeter of the Hodge Center's property, significantly enhancing the look of the facility and improving safety for youth participants.

Greenkill Avenue Bridge to close on Monday, 11/7

The Greenkill Avenue Bridge replacement project is moving forward, with demolition expected to begin this coming week. Broadway will remain open, with the exception of a few evenings when partial closure will be necessary to complete the bridge demolition. However, motorists should prepare for extended travel time due to increased traffic and Greenkill Avenue detours. 

Project updates will be included in future issues of this newsletter, posted on the City's Facebook page and website, and sent to local media outlets.

Midtown Arts District officially launches



The launch of the Midtown Arts District was a wonderful success, in spite of poor weather outside. The Collective at Broadway Commons (615 Broadway) served as a warm and welcoming gathering space for this special event. Event attendees were treated to incredible performances by a wide variety of local musicians and performers. The evening was a lively celebration of the arts in the center of the City. Congratulations to all involved!

Kingston hosts quarterly 
Mayor's Forum

Mayors, City Administrators and other leaders from cities throughout the region gathered at Kingston's City Hall for the quarterly Mayor's Forum on Thursday. The forum is supported by Pattern for Progress and provides local leaders the opportunity to discuss relevant issues and concerns.
KPFFA's Annual Tree Lighting

The Kingston Professional Firefighters Association, Local 461, will sponsor Kingston's annual holiday tree lighting on November 25th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Academy Green. Join Santa and his friends for an evening of FREE fun with local entertainment, refreshments, and a gift card raffle. This event will be held snow or shine.

Housing Choice Voucher Program in Ulster County

The Wait List for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV) in Ulster County is accepting applications Monday, October 31 through Wednesday, December 14, 2016. There is no rush to return applications; all receive equal chance at being selected by lottery after December 14.
