Snow and Ice Event Information

The Public Works Director, or designee, is authorized to declare a snow or ice event whenever it becomes necessary to clear the streets of snow and ice to effectuate the movement of vehicles. Factors which constitute a snow or ice event include, but are not limited to, the accumulation of snow or ice on any street or area which hinders the safe movement of traffic or impedes the ability of emergency vehicles and public vehicles to travel safely and expeditiously over such streets or areas.

A snow or ice event declared shall remain in effect for 24 hours unless specifically extended by the Public Works Director, or designee, through a second declaration.

No owner or operator of any motor vehicle shall park or leave standing any vehicle, trailer, boat or similar item upon any public street or alley during the duration of a snow or ice event.

More information can be found in City of Lodi Ordinance Chapter 352-4 Winter Parking.

Snow or ice events will be posted as an alert to the City’s website and local news outlets will be notified. Sign up for City Alerts for notification of snow or ice events.

Snow & Ice Removal

Following a snow or ice event in the City of Lodi, the full width of the sidewalk in front of or adjoining homes, buildings, or unoccupied lots (including the portion of sidewalk bordering the crosswalk and the curb ramp) is to be cleared of snow accumulation or ice by 11:00 AM of each day by the owner or occupant of the property.

In the case where snow continues to fall after 11:00 AM, then snow and ice is to be removed within three hours of daylight the day after it ceases to fall. Regardless of the source of snow or ice, the width of the sidewalk is to be kept clear. Any ice accumulation is to be sprinkled with sand or salt to prevent the ice from becoming dangerous until a time when it can be removed. Ice must be promptly removed once possible.

The snow and ice must be cleared regardless of the source. Snow and ice should not be pushed, plowed, blown, scooped, piled, or in any way deposited onto any public street, alley, sidewalk, or public lands which are used for vehicle or pedestrian traffic.

Snow and ice not removed by the owner, occupant, or the person in charge of the building or property abutting the sidewalk will be removed by the City and billed to the property owner.

Please do not shovel, plow or blow snow onto city streets.
