Black Community Health Strengths and Needs Assessment Kick off!

Kevin Hatcher, Black Health Equity Coordinator

On Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services kicked off the first ever Black Community Health Strengths and Needs Assessment (BCHSNA).

Aligned with the Framework for Racial Reconciliation, the BCHSNA's vision, as part of Goal 4 of the Racial Equity and Reconciliation Initiative, is to enhance health and wellness in the city by eliminating the social and economic disparities that disproportionately impact communities affected by racism.

The BCHSNA guiding principles:

1) To integrate trauma-informed, healing-centered principles that prioritize safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, and empowerment in identifying strengths and needs within the Black community of Long Beach.

2) A community-informed process that emphasizes inclusion, collaboration, and transparency, guiding the project phases so that the final report offers a comprehensive overview of the health and well-being of the diverse community and its intersecting identities.

3) The design of the process/project as an accessible tool to drive community-led advocacy and policy change.

To kick off the BCHSNA activities, we will be hosting community listening sessions and offering incentives! Please complete the BCHSNA Eligibility Screening Form to see if you qualify.
