Today, the City of Long Beach
ordered a curfew
effective at 1 p.m. in business districts and citywide at 4 p.m. today, June 1, for the safety of the public.
No persons shall travel or be upon the public streets, avenues, alleys, parks, ways or any other public place in the City of Long Beach for the duration of this curfew, except as expressly authorized. For the purposes of this curfew regulation, “travel” shall include, but is not limited to, traveling on foot, bicycle, skateboard, scooter, motorcycle, or automobile or any other means of conveyance.
Law enforcement personnel, firefighting personnel, emergency health care providers, emergency medical personnel, civilians engaged in police or emergency work, individuals seeking emergency care, individuals travelling to and from their place of employment and representatives of the media are exempt. Securing and actively cleaning up businesses are exempt.
On May 31, 2020, City Manager Tom Modica, as the Director of Civil Defense of the City of Long Beach, proclaimed a local emergency in Long Beach and ordered the curfew per the powers listed in the Municipal Code.
The curfew will remain in effect until 5 a.m. June 2, 2020, unless extended if the situation warrants
