Washington Avenue Business Improvement District Teams Up with HistoryMiami Musuem to Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Historic Muhammad Ali & Sonny Liston Bout
The Washington Avenue Business Improvement District, in partnership with HistoryMiami Museum, is proud to announce it will be hosting the 60th-anniversary celebration of Muhammad Ali's historic heavyweight title victory vs Sonny Liston on Washington Avenue February 23 - April 1, 2024. Washington Avenue holds significant historical relevance, encompassing, the areas between 5th Street, where Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, commenced his training, and 17th Street, the very site where Ali achieved his iconic victory, securing the World Heavyweight Title.

Cosmoprof 2024 Recap
The Miami Beach Convention Center recently hosted Cosmoprof of North America, the leading B2B beauty event in the Americas, dedicated to all sectors of the industry.
The event held January 23 - 25, 2024, expanded to Miami Beach to help bridge the gap between U.S. and Latin American beauty industries and the growing U.S. Latino consumer. Cosmoprof views the city as a vibrant hub for international business and cultural exchanges. Thousands of beauty retail buyers, distributors, manufacturers, and brand owners from over 88 countries visited the event this year with over 650 exhibitors from over 40 countries in attendance!

Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust Boosts Support for Black-owned and led enterprises with third iteration of Small Minority Black Business Capitalization Grant Program
In an effort to confront barriers to prosperity, the Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust (MDEAT) reaffirms its commitment to fostering economic growth in Miami-Dade County. MDEAT proactively announces the launch of the third iteration of its Small Minority Black Business Capitalization Grant Program, offering $10,000 grants to 10 successful owners of registered for-profit or not-for-profit enterprises operating within the county.
Applications for this transformative grant program are open and will be accepted until noon on Wednesday, February 16, 2024.

SBA Growth Accelerator Fund Competition 2024
Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the voice in President Biden’s Cabinet for America’s 33 million small businesses and startups, announced the 2024 Growth Accelerator Fund Competition (GAFC) offering a total of $50,000 to $200,000 in prize awards to organizations seeking to foster a national innovation support ecosystem to advance small business research and development (R&D) from ideas to the commercial market.

Apply for the Fight the Flood: Private Property Adaptation Program
Are you concerned about flooding on your property?
The City of Miami Beach Fight the Flood Private Property Adaptation Program is accepting applications from February 15, 2024, to March 15, 2024.
This competitive, reimbursement-based grant program is offering up to $20,000 in matching funds for commercial businesses and residential buildings to conduct flood risk assessments and undertake flood risk mitigation projects. The assessments are conducted by City consultants and are valued at $2,500. Remaining funds for design and construction are provided as reimbursement for half of project cost up to $17,500.
Applications will be evaluated and prioritized based on established criteria and available funding. Applicants must provide proof of flood insurance, an elevation certificate, and written consent from the property owner to be eligible.
The city is delighted to provide this unique and innovative opportunity and looks forward to working together with you to build a more resilient Miami Beach.

Temporary Commission Chambers
at Miami Beach Convention Center
Due to Commission Chamber renovations, all City Commission, Commission Committees and Land Use Board meetings through December will be hosted on the second floor of the Miami Beach Convention Center at 1901 Convention Center Drive in meeting rooms 222-225.
Beyond attending in-person meetings, residents, businesses and stakeholders can continue to watch these meetings live on the city’s website, our government-access cable television station MBTV (Breezeline Channel 660, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, and Hotwire Fision Digital Access Channel 395), Facebook page, YouTube page and via Zoom. Viewers can also continue participating via Zoom.

City of Miami Beach Vacant Storefront Cover Program
The City of Miami Beach relaunched the Vacant Storefront Cover Program in a continued effort to improve the appearance of vacant, street-level commercial buildings and support the lease-up of retail spaces throughout the Miami Beach.
First unveiled in 2019, this initiative supports property owners, brokers, realtors and property managers by wrapping vacant storefront windows free of charge with one of ten (10) artistic designs preapproved by the City.

North Beach Community Redevelopment Agency Facade Improvement Program
The North Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (“North Beach CRA") is excited to announce the launch of the North Beach CRA Commercial Façade & Residential Property Improvement Program (“Programs). The purpose of the Programs is to assist business and property owners to improve, repair, and preserve older buildings; stimulate investment in and revitalization of private property and highlight historic architecture to foster a sense of place that is attractive and welcoming to the entire community, whether visitor, resident, shopper, or merchant.

Is Your Business Eligible for the New Commercial Lease Subsidy Program?
To stimulate the cultural and commercial hubs of the city, the City of Miami Beach has unveiled a Commercial Lease Subsidy Program ("CLS"). Located in the heart of the Art Deco / MiMo Commercial Character Overlay District (ADCD), an area renowned for its unique cultural, commercial, and entertainment offerings, this program seeks to augment Miami Beach's arts, tourism and hospitality sectors.
The purpose of the CLS program is to attract businesses that resonate with the community's spirit and enhance both visitor experience and resident quality of life in the ADCD.
To qualify, businesses must meet one (1) of the following conditions:
- Properties presently occupied by legal nonconforming businesses transitioning to a now permitted model.
- New-to-market arts and cultural business concepts that are absent from the ADCD.
Program participants may be eligible to receive:
- A reimbursement of “Qualified Expenses”, up to $2,500 monthly, with a cap of $20,000 annually. Participants may not exceed $60,000 over a span of three (3) years.

This Month in Miami Beach History: Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach
Dedicated on February 4, 1990, the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach engages people of all ages and backgrounds, adults and students, over the meaning of the Holocaust during which over 6 million Jews and other peoples were murdered. This is accomplished through film screenings, cultural exhibitions, guest speakers, music programming, walking tours, and Holocaust survivor testimonials.
The Memorial has welcomed more than 2.6 million visitors, including more than 300,000 students. Annually, it teaches more than 90,000 visitors about the dangers of unchecked hatred and intolerance and the corresponding need to prevent future genocides. In addition, Holocaust Memorial Committee provides professional development for educators and docents to ensure continued Holocaust education and cultural programs.
