Incentivizing affordable housing in our city is an urgent need. This is why I have joined the campaign: "100 Great Ideas" to gather solutions proposed by people in our community. Hundreds of people participated in an online civic tech campaign seeking ideas about affordable housing. So many interesting ideas were generated by this exercise that I am bringing a resolution to direct our city manager to identify the ideas that have the potential to become a reality in our city. This is a high level of civic engagement!
On another note, improving the housing infrastructure in the West Grove area is a priority for me. I have assigned $300,000 of CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) funds to help fix up dozens of homes in the neighborhood, to help homeowners in need. This is part of a bigger plan I've been working on to revitalize and preserve the neighborhood.
Everyone is welcome to City Hall on Thursday. Thank you for staying informed and involved. Please follow the commission meeting on Twitter @kenrussellmiami or watch live for the full session online at
