COVID-19 and More...Local Update
November 25, 2020
It's Thanksgiving Eve and we are reaching a turning point. COVID-19 numbers are on the rise nationally and locally. Your actions can save lives.

If you care about the health of your family, friends and community, please stay home and enjoy the holiday with your household this Thanksgiving. If you MUST get together with other households, please visit outside, practice social distancing, wear a mask, wash your hands regularly and keep it short.

Luckily, the forecast calls for sunny skies on Thanksgiving for most of the state- consider having a Thanksgiving lunch or early dinner to take advantage of the warmth of mid-day. Thank you!
Thanksgiving Drive Thru Food Drive and Home Delivery
City of Monterey Recreation teamed up with the Food Bank for Monterey County and Kiwanis Club of Monterey for a Thanksgiving Drive Thru Food Drive today. Nearly 1500 (!) cars were served meals as well as delivering 360 meals. Thank you to staff, donors and volunteers for making a difference for residents in need during this difficult time.

Wildlife Wednesday: Turkeys in Monterey County
Turkey is the quintessential Thanksgiving meal, but they are also a common wild bird in Monterey County. They are nonnative, originating from very aggressive stocking operations by California Fish and Game in the 1960s. The population spread rapidly because of quality oak woodland habitat and good climate for the birds. They often feel comfortable visiting neighborhoods too! This particular male is showing an elaborate breeding display. Ben Franklin said of the turkey that they are a “respectable bird, and withal a true original Native of America...He is besides, though a little vain and silly, a Bird of Courage.”
