Local update on COVID-19 & more

February is Black History Month
In celebration of Black History Month - "...just sittin' on the dock of the bay⁣..." This photo at Fisherman's Wharf reminds us of Otis Redding’s classic song. Redding became a superstar after performing at the iconic Monterey Pop Festival in1967. Photo credit: Patrick Brown
Thank you, United Way of Monterey County
Monterey County 211’s call volume increased by 109% in 2020 compared to 2019. It's more than a helpline — it’s a lifeline. One call opens access to services to improve health and save lives.
Vaccination 4-1-1
Everyone in California will have an opportunity to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at no cost. But our vaccination supply is limited right now. So we’re starting with the groups who are at highest risk, like people with a high chance of exposure and people 65 and older. Sign up to get notified when it's your turn to receive the #COVID19 vaccine: http://myturn.ca.gov #StopTheSpread #EndThePandemic

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is now providing a Covid Data Tracker Weekly Review. Excerpt from Feb. 12: “Better, but not good enough” Don’t let your guard (or mask) down. COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to trend downward. But even with that progress, the daily numbers of new cases and deaths remain much higher than the first two peaks of the pandemic in the spring and summer of 2020. (Note: This information is based on national data. California reports a decline in cases from the summer peak.) See the full review at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview and subscribe for weekly updates:
Here’s what we are doing while we wait our turn for the COVID-19 vaccines: masking up, staying at least six feet apart from others, avoiding crowds, and not gathering inside with people we don’t live with. This is how we'll make a difference and help. These actions also help reduce the chances of variant types of the virus.
