Mayor Clyde Roberson (top right) was on hand to thank City of Monterey Parks workers for planting three new cherry trees. These trees will blossom beautifully along the Recreation Trail at Fishermans Shoreline Park. One has been planted in memory of the lives lost to COVID-19. The other two will honor healthcare workers and all frontline workers and community partnerships that worked together to help end the pandemic. The site may later be dedicated as a COVID-19 memorial, after we are out of the pandemic. This will be a serene, living and lasting memorial, overlooking the bay, where people can reflect and remember.
Another way to remember loved ones we lost and honor the heroes of the pandemic is to visit our "Tree of Hearts" at City Hall. Watch live on youtube.com/cityofmonterey
tomorrow, Wednesday, March 10 at 3 p.m. as we begin to decorate the designated magnolia tree at Friendly Plaza on the corner of Pacific Street and Jefferson Street. Bring a permanent marker later this week and write the name of someone you wish to honor on one of the hearts. Learn more in the graphic below:
