Wildlife Wednesday - the Great Egret
Equipped with a long neck and dagger-like beak, Great Egrets can be found wading through wetlands stealthily spearing fish along the way. Their habitat stretches all around the United States in coastal habitats and they can be found in the Monterey bay year round. TOP PHOTO CREDIT: Jerry Loomis. Spring has sprung and the cherry trees are blossoming
The cherry trees are blossoming! Planted on March 13 at the one year mark of the pandemic in memory of loved ones lost to Covid-19, to honor health care workers, and in appreciation to frontline workers and community partners for supporting our community through this difficult year. A beautiful time to take a walk along the Recreation Trail by Foam and Cannery Row and see them up close and in-person. More information

Testing and vaccinations are complimentary strategies
  • Testing helps to save lives and livelihoods: reduces transmission; breaks the chain of infection; improved targeting and monitoring of Covid-19 strategy, surveillance.
  • Testing and vaccinations are complimentary strategies (not an either-or scenario)
  • Testing is still needed to protect against new variants, reinfection, and as a tool to help manage reopening.
Thank you to the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce for putting together an up-to-date list of testing sites and times.
How to talk about COVID-19 vaccines with friends and family - from the CDC
Talking with family and friends about the benefits of getting a COVID-19 vaccine can be hard. You can help by listening without judgement and identifying the root of their concerns. Things to remember to help open the discussion include:
  • Listen to questions with empathy
  • Ask open-ended questions to explore concerns
  • Ask permission to share information
  • Help them find their own reason to get vaccinated
  • Help make their vaccination happen
