Reopening Day for Dennis the Menace Playground
Dennis is ready for visitors! Even though he's known to be a menace, he still cares for others by keeping a social distance, wearing a face covering and washing hands regularly when visiting his namesake Dennis the Menace Playground. These health and safety measures are especially important in a busy playground. Thank you for visiting responsibly and enjoy the reopening of our beloved park! Opening hours will be Tuesday to Sunday from 10AM-sunset and Mondays 1PM to sunset. For more information about City of Monterey parks and playgrounds, visit

A Laguna Grande Regional Joint Powers Agency (JPA) Special Meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.

On the agenda is a proposal to hire a consultant to create a trail maintenance strategy and conduct an environmental review. The strategy aims to: 1) improve the existing park conditions and (Americans with Disabilities Act) ADA accessibility; 2) establish regular maintenance of shrubs and trees; 3) curtail invasive plant species; 4) assess habitat restoration opportunities; and 5) amplify trail access through upkeep, signage, and identifying major access points, all in order to encourage public safety and additional passive as well as active uses of the Park through a planned maintenance program.

The meeting will also include presentations from the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) about the Fort Ord Regional Trail and Greenway (FORTAG) trail, and from the City of Monterey engineering team about the proposed North Fremont Bike and Pedestrian Improvement from Casanova to Canyon Del Rey (North Side), also referred to as the North Fremont Gap Closure Project.
