Your Morgan Hill Weekly 411
Week of August 3, 2020
Hello Morgan Hill!

August is upon us and we hope that everyone is enjoying these "dog days of summer." It is a great time to take advantage of our wonderful outdoor dining experiences, as well as, our beautiful parks and trails.
A Message from the Santa Clara County Office of Emergency Management
The COVID-19 pandemic reminds us of the importance of being prepared for the unexpected. As we are in peak wildfire season, it's important to also be aware that a PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) may occur at any time.

Did you know that you may be at risk of a power shutoff even if you do not live in a wildfire high risk area? High temperatures, extreme dryness and record-high winds have created conditions in our state where any spark at the wrong time and place can lead to a major wildfire.

To better prepare for an PSPS event, PG&E will notify its customers and non-customers who have signed up to receive alerts two days before power is turned off. Make sure to have enough supplies that will last a whole week when you receive this alert. Learn more on on the PSPS event at http://bit.ly/PSPSFAQ and start preparing today.

And as always, take care of yourself and of one another,

Office of Emergency Management
Main Avenue Bike Lane & Sidewalk Project
The City of Morgan Hill is currently planning to begin work on a bike lane and sidewalk project on Main Avenue. The work is tentatively set to commence on August 17, 2020. We anticipate this project to be completed in February of 2021. The contractor, McKim Corporation, will provide written notice to residents adjacent to the work area prior to start of construction. The project will install buffered bike lanes along Main Avenue between Butterfield Blvd and Condit Road. In addition, a small section will be widened to accommodate new bike lanes and new sidewalk. Other improvements include, curb bulb-outs, storm drain modifications, asphalt overlay, slurry seal, and cold in place recycled asphalt (CIR). Green bike lane markings and a pedestrian crosswalk beacon will further enhance safety of the street corridor. For additional information and updates, please visit https://www.morgan-hill.ca.gov/485/Capital-Improvement-Program .
The Centennial Recreation Center has opened an outdoor workout space! All mandates by Santa Clara County and requirements from the State of California are in place and enforced to help ensure the safety of members and teammates.

For details about our reopening, including new processes and safety protocols, how to reserve a workout space, how to become a member, and membership billing information, visit us here.
Stay Updated on the Coronavirus and
Local Sheltering in Place
As we continue to preserve the progress we have made in case and hospitalization rates and improve our testing and tracing capability, we will be able to move toward opening even more sectors of the economy.

To get there, we need our residents to:

  • Wear a face covering. Californians are required to wear face coverings in public spaces - particularly indoors or when physical distancing is not possible.
  • Practice physical distancing. Six feet is a minimum. More is better.
  • Get tested. Visit sccfreetest.org for locations and guidance.

Visit our website for all the latest information on the COVID-19 pandemic at www.morganhill.ca.gov/covid19 .
Wear a mask
Masks continue to be required as we go about our day to day business. Properly wearing a face covering in public needs to be as routine as wearing a seatbelt. The only difference is the face covering could save someone else’s life.
